More like comparing Creed to Nickleback.

The first should've never been permitted into a recording studio due to overwhelming SUCK.

The second had like one song that was worth the money people paid for it.

I realized this weekend, while trapped in a car with a smarmy young twenty something post-modernist poetry adjunct instructor starting his doctoral program in the spring, that "Wonderwall" is one of those few songs that actually inspires me to violence.

Or maybe it was "Wonderwall" paired with his simple presence, I'm not sure.

If you happen to read this, Glen...yeah, I farking walked.

Frankly I think all four parties have reason to feel insulted by that comparison.

Hey, cha cha, comparing Kylie Minogue's soulful tones to Paris Hilton's magnum opiate is like comparing the third movement of Beethoven's ninth to my second movement of the morning, baby.

She did that reggae-pop song a couple of years ago, right? That song actually wasn't that bad.

Tarl3k 2008-12-01 11:46:22 AM
In their defense, Oasis does have a decent song or two. Wonderwall is shiat, but "Where did it all go wrong" is actually a good song, along with "Stop crying your heart out". Granted, the brothers are complete doucebags, but some of their songs don't actually suck.

Which is like comparing Oasis to U2

So does that mean they both suck?

CitronR 2008-12-01 11:53:43 AM
So, basically, Paris Hilton is giving Bansky a chance to vandalize more of her albums?

I can't WAIT.

Heh. See, to me it means one is tolerably mediocre while the other was awesome twenty years ago.

I'm at work, otherwise I would be busy hotlinking pictures of Kylie Minogue's apocalyptically rogerable backside.
Do not let this potential go wasted and turn this into yet another boring and predictable music snob thread, fellow farkers.

The onus is on you.

/Ew, I got some onus on me, too.

I'd listen to Oasis over U2. Just an opinion, nothing to get worked up over.

I also really dislike Radiohead. That should get some people angry.

Agreed. At some point, we have all been trapped in a car with a wanktastic pedant and the urge to kill.

/Hate the phrase "post-modern", too.
//Once heard doctoral student earnestly describe their area of specialty as "po-co, po-mo lit-crit" and nearly choked on my beer.
/// "Post-colonial post-modern literary criticism", in case you were wondering.

What are your views on Rush? Or Neil Peart?

OK, I'll bite since I've never lurked or been a part of a Oasis hate thread: why do the peoples hate them so? Other than the brothers being, well, pricks.

Enlighten this farker.

I dont understand headline, or why fark staffers greenlight such things.

Oasis is farking great, but how many bands can compare to U2? Although I am not a fan of commercial world-wide "brands" like they have become.

Paris and the Kyle broad are interchangable, and equation makes no sense.

Oasis = teh awesome. As a (relatively) recent fan, I missed much of the mid-90s overplayed "Wonderwall" and "Don't Look Back in Anger."

I think the brothers being angry assholes is part of their charm. What other bands can the members yell how much they think YOU suck and then people just cheer them? Awesome. haha!

Anyone wanting to hear some decent stuff should check out "farkin' in the Bushes," "Supersonic," "Falling Down," "D'Ya Know What I Mean," and "Morning Glory." Great songs.

All we are is entertainment
Caught up in our own derangement
Tell us what to say and what to do
All we are are pretty faces
Picture perfect bottled rage
Packaged synthesized versions of you

We've all made petty fortunes but we can't afford a life
Confined to pull-out quotes and hotel rooms
They all scream California and its toppling empire
But can't you see the end is coming soon

Come one come all the new sensation
Guarantees then obligations
Spotlights follow every single move
Basking here on ten foot stages
Pouty lips and oh so jaded
All as if we have something to prove

Despite these petty fortunes we still can't afford a life
Confined to pull-out quotes and hotel rooms
They all scream California and its toppling empire
But can't you see the end is here

And if we cared at all
about this unknown plight
then we'd do something more
to finally make this right

Is this only entertainment
Pull the curtains, places please
We've learned to sing and dance and cry on cue
But this is more than entertainment
In a world so sick with pain
This is the only thing that's real or true

We've all made petty fortunes but we can't afford a life
Confined to pull-out quotes and hotel rooms
They all scream bloody murder over graves already dug
But can't you see the end

It bugs me to no end when the news reports another no talent famous for being famous idiot releases an album. I know lots of musicians who are worthy, talented and struggling to get that kind of financial backing.

Should've kept her in jail, reduced the public health risk and elevated popular culture in one stroke.

Lets see how many times you hear an Oasis song 20 years from now in the mainstream. And yes I do think U2 is the best ever. YMMV but they definitely don't suck.

Kylie Minogue can make an excellent dance album.
Paris Hilton cannot.
U2 can make an excellent rock album.
Oasis cannot.
I may not like Kylie Minogue, but at least she has talent.
And as overrated as U2 is, I still like 'em.
