A former workplace paid about that much to power three buildings full of computers.

When contacted originally, Genesis Energy said, "It must be some misunderstanding." Bellaney asked Genesis to turn it on again but got no reply at all. He was taking it all too hard and wanted to start throwing it all away. Fortunately, he made it through the land of confusion and things worked out fine. That's all.

So there was a mistake and he got it straightened out? Wow!

Seriously, this happens all the time and, for some reason, it always makes the news.

Someone should dedicate a website to stuff like that. Maybe even write a book about it...

Well, at the rate Charter is going, I fully expect to be paying that for cable television in about 3 months.

FTFA: The family's bill is normally around $120 a month, but this time it seems the meter reader took a much higher number from an old meter that was disconnected.

The meter reader was probably a contractor. Much cheaper than hiring, training, and retaining your own meter readers!

FTFA: The company is investigating what went wrong. It says any residential power bill of more than $800 should trigger an alert at headquarters' accounts department.

Genesis has probably saved a fortune by sending their software development and QA to a top-notch firm in India. The $800 threshold alarm feature will probably make it to the top of the priority list sometime in 2015.

That. Was. Awesome.

I bet the meter-reader must have had that invisible touch, eh? He used them and started something to make it a place worth living in.

Genesis is run by retards. I use to get a lot of "you are up to date on payment" letters, until I called to enquire about a double dip they did on my account. They then told me I was behind like 500$

Subby and ex-Genesis energy employee here, so getting kick, etc. Still have some friends who work at Genesis, and I'm not surprised this happened - the call centre is still in New Zealand, but they've been cutting costs by getting rid of entire departments - like quality control and senior managers...

Phil Collins is way cooler than some singers or music groups out there. I mean Phil single handlingly created The Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall.

Want to know how to really punish them?

Make them take weekend-long courses on power calculations and three phase circuit analysis repeatedly, until they get it all right.

Repeat offenders get courses on amp filters and fourier transformations.

/learn'em good

Whatever happened to those 'high tech - state of the art' meters that were suppose to call in over the power lines to report your usage and eliminate the need for meter readers?

"the shock of his life"? Really? Seriously, who would get a bill like that and not look at it and say, "Huh... wow... I guess there's been a mistake. I'd better call the power company." But the shock of one's life? Hmmm....

Well, that, and he was also sticking his penis in the toaster, sooo... we're not sure what caused it.
