Personally, I'd stick with the headline's version. At least while you're teaching someone gun safety there's a slight chance you could be handling a loaded gun without being a total moran. After over a decade of cleaning guns I have yet to figure out how anyone with a modicum of sense could accidentally shoot themselves in the process.

It's like when you try to correct someone's spelling or grammar online. There's a much higher chance you'll make a mistake. And then people online laugh at you.

This article made me laugh at the man, and I am admitting it freely. I'm sorry, but when you're the Chief of Police and you shoot yourself with your own gun basically due to inattention and negligence, you deserve to be on FARK.

My dad, who is an amputee (no lower forearm or hand on the left side, he's a Vietnam vet) taught me gun safety when I was 11 (I used his .22 rifle), and neither of us were injured.

In a friends office for some gun show and tell. Me the total n00b, with the gun owner and his friend. What amazed me was...

that these guys routinely "swept" each other with the guns. They were all unloaded, but I (being the n00b) thought *all guns are loaded* and that to sweep someone wasn't cricket.

So "friend" is playing around with this gun, with the pointy end right to the gun owner, and I kind of move the gun to a safer position.

The friend gets all uppity (I'm the n00b, see) saying "Well you NEVER try to blah blah blah" and I say "you keep pointing that thing at my buddy".

I didn't get it. Here's a couple experience gun dudes and all I saw was, time and again, a barrel pointed right at somebody. Sheesh!

Is it that hard to never point a gun at anything you don't want to shoot? Or do guys routinely slack off on that one?

2)keep your farking finger of the trigger if you haven't taken an aim yet

Yes my glock loving acquaintances don't quote rule 4 at me for some reason. They like to substitute the 5th rule of: "know your target and what lies beyond" in its place.

True story-
Me and a friend of mine who happened to apply to the same job and got it found ourselves working in a kitchen as cooks at 16. Having grown up in households that stress safety with potential and real weapons, we both knew how to properly cut foods with our extremely sharp chef's knives at the job.
Long story short, this guy who was 15 years older than us started working there. He claimed he was a "professional", having gone to school to be a chef and had been working at "five star restaurants." All I kept thinking was "WTF is he working at this shiatty bar and grill then?"
So this guy pulls me and my buddy aside one day to 'demonstrate' proper handling of the large knive whilst dicing vegetables. After he increased the speed he started to get sloppy, and poof, there goes the end of his finger.
/I went and got some ice and a cup and some tongs.
