I've run quite a few races. If I was on-schedule for a 10K personal best and Drunkie McJeebus cost me 6 seconds, I'd have no problem with having him killed in jail.

I seem to remember a similar story during the 2004 Olympics where some crazy preacher nailed the guy who was winning the marathon and cost him the race. I would not have been a happy camper.

My bet is that he is one of those mentally ill homeless guys who, when they aren't drunk, are walking around with a bible quoting it out-loud to themselves. Riverside Country (in California) is full of these nut-jobs.

As others have postulated he doesnt have the funds, but there are other angles to this as well. There are those that feel they must have been wrong or whatever and either want to be a martyr or feel that they are like Job and being punished so they just sit in a fit of depression and/or self pity. Not saying this is what it is, but there are those that take this attitude and even if they can make bail they refuse to.

All the comments I saw said "probably a homeless guy", but there are other reasons a preacher can be poor, like being in one of the small churches that make up the majority of churches (although now that I see his picture those comments may be justified). Your explanation sounds very plausible though, especially for the type of person who will jump out in front of people who aren't doing anything wrong and scream at them that they are (ok, so that's an assumption based on my personal college campus screaming preacher).

/why do they think screaming at people that everything they're doing is wrong (which is a big assumption on his part anyway; just because some kids drink and party etc. doesn't mean every last kid who walks by him does, and why is it his business anyway?) is going to win people over?
