The Bulava (SS-NX-30), developed by the Moscow Institute of Thermal Technology, is designed for deployment on Borey-class Project 955 nuclear-powered submarines. The first submarine in the series, the Yury Dolgoruky, was built at the Sevmash shipyard in the northern Arkhangelsk Region and is currently undergoing sea trials.

I wonder if that puppy off shore of Venezuela doing trials with their little "exercises".

Good thing that the cold war is over or I would be real scared.

This is a lame attempt at showing their arsenal is still up to par.

Weapons systems sales for Russia/China/France/US are still a big deal, and if you want the advanced stuff, there really are only two shops to go to. This is pretty much a doorbuster advertisement for Russian arms.

In the era of nuclear missles, "better" is really a non-issue. Our nukes have far better accuracy and dependability and everyone knows it. Russia makes up for their shiatty accuracy with their higher yields. It doesn't matter if your nuke is within 1,000 yards if you throw a high enough yield into the mix.

The Day after was pretty good for it's time.

And great. It's Cold War II: Nuclear Boogalo.

It's only Cold War part II if both sides have the ability and will to make a go of it. The Russians have the political will, but only so much ability- they have to be content to rattle their saber at Eastern Europe now. No more of this spreading their influence globally; they can't project power that far and everybody knows it. Even within Eastern Europe their power only goes so far; many of those countries remember the Soviet hegemony over their lands, and they don't recall those days with much fondness. However, the US doesn't necessarily have the political will to play ball; it remains to be seen how Obama's foreign policy tone will be. He might be a pushover, he might show strength and resolve.

Really, if there is a sequel, it will be a pale shadow of the original.

A Typhoon-class sub in the White Sea? What are the odds we can get it to defect to the US?

/We could take a look at these Bulavas up close.
//And their experimental silent drive.

Union of Concerned Scientists is a good site. Of course, they are biased against nuclear war, so take what they say with a grain of salt.

Just for old time's sake: at the tone the time will be... 5 minutes to midnight.

There was a time when a Bulova watch was The Shiat. I got one for a first communion present and everybody was like "oooooohhhhh".

This is why we can't have nice things, like puppies, unicorns, and rainbows for everyone. The world is filled with bad people, and Barack Obama will soon find that out. Senator Obama wants us all to think that everyone and everything in the world is good. And there are good people in the world. But there are also a lot of bad people. That is reality. People who want to see us and our way of life destroyed. This is why we can't have nice things.

This is why we have to spend money to ensure our military and our nuclear arsenal are up to par. Not that we necessarily want to use them, but if we had to use them, we can't be caught with our pants down.

bigheadface 2008-11-30 11:10:31 AM
It only took them how many test launches to get one right?
Russia is on the way out militarily. If oil prices stay down for any length of time, they won't have the money to support their huge military infrastructure (which is already falling apart).
