Have you caught the attempted ret-con of the Vietnam war? The one where we would have 'won' except for the hippies?

If we never left Vietnam, McCain would still be there.

/And Nixon would still be President

It is really disturbing that the term retconning is now being applied to reality. I actually think that term bothers me more than any of the 1984 terms.

That was actually Winston Smith's job in 1984. He went through old newspapers and removed mentions of Party officials who'd fallen out of favor, and changed stories to better reflect the current view of history.

That book is actually eerily prescient in its insights about how political processes affect language.

I'm quite aware of that, but it bothers me using a term I learned from playing a MMO and apparantly originates from comic books, and then turning around and using that term to apply to reality.

Ha ha.
I wouldn't doubt at all if we're back to the way it used to be between presidents and VPs.

The VP is the red headed step child, who was brought onto the ticket to help in a certain region, or demographic.
After the election, they're shunned.

Like their recent predecessors, Obama and Biden have met for weekly one-on-one lunches since the election.

So...they've met three times?

We need to find a way to harness conservative bitterness, stupidity and overall WHARRGARBL into a renewable form of energy. We'd be building armies of Transformers in no time.

It really doesn't make a difference whether Biden is involved, or not. They've simply corked his mouth.

Interestingly that is exactly 3 more times than McCain met Palin before picking her for VP.

Ummm....after the Cheney debacle, isn't it refreshing to have a President actually being in charge, instead of being the "decider."

Libs actually building something? Not likely. Best stick to your area of expertise and substitute "harness" for "tax."

It's a non-story meant to fill space with the appearance of controvery. It's right up there with Obama and whether he gets to keep his Blackberry or not.

Who cares what Biden does from this point on? He's already done his job -- help get Obama elected. They could duct tape his mouth and shove him in the corner for the next 4 years and aside from some political hacks (like the person who wrote this piece) few people would notice and of those none would care.

Bzzzt. Next non-story please.

It's the RIGHT that's ignoring them. Bush went after Iraq when al-Qaeda had no presence there. The 'Al-Qaeda in Iraq' group formed AFTER the invasion. Meanwhile, Osama bin Laden, the ACTUAL threat to America, went free.

Thanks Bush you took on the hard stuff, something Clinton clearly failed to do.

You provided AIDs relief in Africa, the removal of two odious regimes, and consensual governments in their places, a framework at home to stop 9/11-type terrorism, and good working partnerships with key allies abroad such as Britain, Germany, France, Italy, India, et al, and a pragmatism in handling rivals like Russia and China.

Thanks Bush, your vision will be missed.

The ret-con about Vietnam has been around for a long time. It's always been the line my father told me, for my entire life. Only by talking to actual Vietnam veterans and their children did I begin to see the reality.

Plagiarism in a Biden thread? Well done.

Kinda recycled from the recently greenlighted "Center-Right versus Center-Left in the Democratic Party, or Godless Commie Pinkos versus Ultra Godless Commie Pinkos" thread.

Ans as I remarked there, the Republicans are trying to project their own troubles on the Democrats.

What this really shows is how few ideas the Republican party has these days.

Considering that human beings have been ret-conning history since humans have been able to preserve their memories -- and the hard evidence was finally captured in any number of Roman, Egyptian, or Sumerian memorials -- he wasn't being prescient. He was just telling it like it's always been.

I heard that Joe Biden was closely involved in the key decision to plagiarize a story about Shrillary being under sniper fire in Bosnia.

They're not going to let Biden run his mouth again. He'll make the occasional prepared speech, do his VP duties in the Senate, and be kept out of sight the rest of the time.

Biden the gasbag is an embarrassment for Obama, and the makeover act the lefty blogs are trying to pull on him is good comedy.

Thanks for the laughs, and please continue. Biden will be the source of much fun in the next four years. He doesn't even have to cuss any Senators out or shoot a guy in the face with a shotgun.
