FTFA: There is no evidence that Harris or Goode, who lost re-election bids in 2006 and 2008 respectively, engaged in any illegal behavior in response to the contributions, according to DOJ.

Old news is old. And mislabeled.

Let Morticia go write a book or something.

Which one is she again?

No, she is not under investigation. She has already been cleared. She's not even the subject of the article.

Does nobody on Fark read the articles they're greenlighting? Why the hell do so many of these slip through with a headline on a completely different tangent than the article they submitted?

In 2004, serving in Congress, Harris received $32,000 in similarly refunded illegal campaign contributions from executives of a defense contractor, MZM Inc., whose chief executive, Mitchell Wade, admitted to bribing a Congress member.

In the debate, Harris said she again didn't know of the illegal source.

"The courts went out of their way to say there was no way I could know," she said in the debate.

In fact, prosecutors in the Wade case, not a court, said they had no evidence that Wade had told Harris the money was illegal. They did not say Harris could not have known. Several of her former aides have been questioned by the FBI and Department of Justice in the investigation.

After receiving the contributions, Harris sought a $10 million "earmark" appropriation for a contract for Wade's company.

She said in the debate that she has nothing to hide concerning that earmark or any other.

"I have also wanted extraordinary transparency," she said. "I've published those [earmarks]. Everyone can see my requests. ... The senator will not show his requests because of the tieback to those who may have contributed to him."

Nelson has in fact published his earmarks.

Although Harris did provide the Tribune a list of her earmarks at the paper's request, she has refused to provide documents describing the MZM project.

Harris contends those documents are classified, but former campaign staff members, who don't have security clearances, have said they saw the documents.

Ah, how I've missed the Katie Harris threads.

Allow me to point out that I would readily volunteer to bang the crazy right out of her, or die trying.

TheShavingofOccam123:

Dude, I don't care if she's innocent or guilty, the article in this link mentions her name twice, she is not the subject of the article, and the text of the article says she has been cleared. The details you bring up are nowhere to be found in the article listed. If the subby wants to send in a link with the title "Rep. Katherine Harris possibly under investigation for bribery", then at the very least the article should be about Katherine Harris. You can be 100% right in your response, but that doesn't change the fact that the article in the link is not about Katherine Harris or her own issues related to this.

I'm just tired of greenlit articles that are completely different from the titles they're getting greenlit for. It's not even a partisan issue - commie or fascist, they're just not getting read before they're getting posted. This one didn't even tell a joke to make up for it.

Crazy_Katie

"We have to have the faithful in government and over time," the Witness quotes Harris as saying, "that lie we have been told, the separation of church and state, people have internalized, thinking that they needed to avoid politics and that is so wrong because God is the one who chooses our rulers."

n addition to pleading guilty to bribing Cunningham, Wade has admitted to funneling $78,000 in illegal campaign contributions to Rep. Virgil Goode (R-Va.) and former Rep. Katherine Harris (R-Fla.)

Tsk. Shoulda funneled it thru untraceable prepaid credit card internet donations using names like 'Test Person' and 'Jgtj Jfggjjfgj'. You know, like a Democrat.

engaged in any illegal behavior in response to the contributions, according to DOJ.

She has already been cleared..

She did get defeated. How was she supposed to pay back the $78k in illegally funneled campaign contributions that she received?

It does not say she has been cleared. It says, there is no evidence she engaged in illegal behavior. Subby says she is possibly under investigation. Presuming the purpose of an investigation is to uncover evidence, I don't think its unlikely that she is being investigated. I would like to know where the money went just in case she donated it to a militant Islamic group, Sarah Palin's church, Robert Mugabe or Manolo Blahnik.

FTA : "Wade has admitted to funneling $78,000 in illegal campaign contributions to Rep. Virgil Goode (R-Va.) and former Rep. Katherine Harris (R-Fla.), as well as steering gifts to Defense Department employees in an effort to get them to help his company, MZM Inc. Wade paid a $1 million to the Federal Election Commission over these improper contributions. There is no evidence that Harris or Goode, who lost re-election bids in 2006 and 2008 respectively, engaged in any illegal behavior in response to the contributions, according to DOJ."

Over a half-dozen people are doing jail-time due to Wade's briberies.
This wasn't a bribe.

There's no evidence that Harris personally profited from Wade, there's no evidence that she knew (or even should have known) about the illegal contributions, finally there's no evidence that she did anything illegal in connection with this - or anything else.

//Still haven't gotten over your outrage in her NOT violating the law as Florida Secretary of State
//so Gore could selectively recount his way to victory?
//Suck it Libs.

She did try to get Florida citrus growers to buy magic water from a con man a few years ago so she's also embarrassingly stupid in addition to being corrupt.

Pechorin 2008-11-29 02:22:29 PM
Well, it's not like we elected a CEO of a defense company as vice-president and then had him start a war overseas that enriched his company. That would just be stupid.

Think of it this way: there's the remote chance, no matter how much protection you use, that you'll have to deal with a kid resulting from such a union. Could you maintain a hard-on with that thought?

Hell, I certainly couldn't.

Yeah, if there's one thing this article proves, it's that Katherine Harris is a voice for justice and fairness in Florida politics. Not like that crooked NOBEL PRIZE WINNER Al Gore.
