Noel Gallagher: Oasis At The Same Level As Rolling Stones

He should have been forced into detox after making that statement.

Huh. Is Oasis' guitarist a zombie too?

submitter: "You have to see us in league with The Rolling Stones now"

Technically, he's correct.

/Technically, I throw a fastball like Nolan Ryan in 1975.

Oasis? Never heard of em.

Cubs300 2008-11-28 09:48:11 PM
Oasis is a big giant vortex of sucktitude. Wonderwall makes me want to gouge my eyes out with a spoon. Everything else they do is worse. No argument.

/why a spoon?

Demetrius [TotalFark] 2008-11-28 10:09:25 PM
Wasn't this asshole claiming for a while that they were bigger than the Beatles?

Cubs300: /why a spoon?

Because it's DULL, you twit. It'll hurt more.

GurneyHalleck [TotalFark] 2008-11-28 10:31:45 PM
Oasis sucks. I saw them in a small club in the early 90's and a bunch of local bands that don't even exist anymore blew them off the stage. Again, lowered expectations make a Beatles out of a Herman's Hermits.

Control_this [TotalFark] 2008-11-28 10:32:10 PM
So Noel is saying he had sex with David Bowie?

karmachameleon 2008-11-28 10:38:12 PM
Everybody knows who the New Kids on the Block are, everybody knows what they sound like. I see Oasis in the same league as New Kids on the Block.

I love this line of logic!

Jesus. The Stones from the late sixties through the late seventies is some of the most desperate, raunchy rock and roll slippage ever recorded. I'm sure that mentioning Oasis and the Stones in the same sentence might be warranted if you're talking about brand awareness; everyone has at least heard of Oasis.

But that's where it ends.

/hates the 'new' characitures Stones.

Why do these mags always use the term "The__Star" or "The__hitmaker"

With oasis, its "the wonderwall star". With Zeppelin its "The Kashmir hitmakers". It's reallt annoying unless the musician in question is actually an obscure one hit wonder that will only be recognised by a song title.

Sometimes, perhaps as a joke, they'll even use some randon not so popular song. Like "The Beatles to be inducted into some Hall of Fame. The Maxwell Silver Hammer Hitmakers broke up in 1971".

hurdygurdy27 2008-11-28 11:24:37 PM
If if means that they are both way past their prime, then I would have to agree. God, I can't believe I agree with that turd.

Walkenstein 2008-11-28 11:45:53 PM
While Oasis have made more than a handful of great songs from the 90's and on, this level of narcissism from the Gallagher brothers is mostly delusional beliefs on their part and is nothing new from them.

This new claim from them is illogical and idiotic aside from being delusional. There is no less than 60% of Beatles and Rolling Stones fans that have either never heard of Oasis and their music and/or don't like them, their music or even care to hear or know about them.

this automatically renders their claim invalid and retarded

Walkenstein 2008-11-28 11:49:20 PM
oh, and you can also count on the majority of people from the ages of 33 and below that happen to listen to the Beatles, Rollings Stones and Oasis not liking Oasis as much as the other two or consider them even in the same league.

may be considered ad hominem, but anyone over the age of 21 that considers Oasis superior or even in the same league as The Stones/Beatles= a farking moron

DeathByGeekSquad 2008-11-28 11:53:05 PM
Let's see:

Everyone knows the Rolling Stones: Not everyone, but a lot of people.
Everyone knows Oasis: A huge chunk of people know them, especially with Noel in the news so much.
Everyone knows the sound of Rolling Stone: Everyone who has heard them.
Everyone knows the sound of Oasis: Everyone who has heard them.
Everyone knows what the Rolling Stones do: Yep.
Everyone knows what Oasis does: Yep.

Seems he's pretty on the ball, folks are taking the quote to be something that it's not. It's called context you farking nitwits.

They're from the same wire service, WENN, and that's their style.

I know the Stones well, but was never much of a fan. I respect them, though.

Heard of Oasis, but never cared for them much. On top of that, Noel is such a windbag he's really a turn-off.

Just because you sucked the band off doesn't mean you have to get so smug.

shanrick: Oasis? Never heard of em.

Heard of them like 10 years ago, can't remember their song and wouldn't recognize them if I saw them.

EllaFitzgerald [TotalFark] 2008-11-29 12:53:56 AM
Word is the Rolling Stones completely deny being in league w/Oasis.

Or of having heard of the buggers.

Canuck Eh 2008-11-29 01:05:47 AM
well to clarify a bit, it was an interview with Rolling Stone magazine and the full exchange was:

Q. Have you pulled out any songs that you haven't played in awhile?

A. Yeah. "Slide Away," "The Masterplan," "Supersonic." We're not going to turn any new people on to Oasis. Oasis is a band that you either get it or you don't. Everybody knows who we are. You have to see us in league with the Rolling Stones now. Everybody's heard of the Stones, everybody knows what they sound like, everybody knows what they do. You either go because you like it or you don't. It's easy.

he wasn't saying "we're in the same league" as in "we're as great as them in every discernible fashion" (though i don't doubt he wouldn't say that anyway) it was a simple commentary on the fact that when you go to a rolling stones show, you know what you're going to get, same as an oasis show. they've been a touring band for 17 years now, you get it or you don't

mahavishnunj 2008-11-29 01:08:52 AM
i couldnt agree more-2 incredibly shiatty bands. if oasis is together for a million years maybe theyll have 4 good songs like the stones do.

/oasis is obviously way worse than even the stones

2and4 2008-11-29 02:25:52 AM
I guess I don't get it. But then again I get The Pretenders and Jane's Addiction and some folks don't so whatever.

/How you can't get The Pretenders I'll never know

Crap music from a crap band.

zunkus 2008-11-29 03:15:02 AM
I kinda like oasis but they don't have shiat on the Stones.

Way to assume you know anything about my music tastes, Oasis was, and always will be a hack band attempting to suck money from the trendy retards who wish they were born at an earlier time.

angusyoung 2008-11-29 05:55:00 AM
Sounds like Noel's gotten into Keef's drugs again. Amateur.

gren713 2008-11-29 06:34:36 AM
More people know about Oasis because of the Gallagher brothers' assholishness rather than their mediocre imitation Beatles music.

danduran 2008-11-29 07:22:48 AM
Oasis, outside the US, are huge. That's what he means. All their shows sell out, each album sells a couple of million, they're selling to their crowd, etc. Going from the comments I can tell most people in the US only know them from over a decade ago; Noel's a master satirist, if you actually read his interviews. He's a master of taking the piss and irony, which has never gone down well in the US commercially.

darkyn [TotalFark] 2008-11-29 09:59:31 AM

That one was kinda catchy. Did they have any other good songs?

darkyn: No. Just...no.

Cue the "How about no" bear.

no clever name here just move along 2008-11-29 05:55:11 PM
I heard on the radio yesterday that Oasis is playing the Oakland coliseum.
I was really surprised, just- "Huh. People still like Oasis, and they are still big enough to fill a coliseum? Huh."

doctx 2008-12-01 05:30:13 AM
The Rolling Stones have international appeal...or did anyway. Oasis really hasn't hit it big outside of the UK. They tried the US and much like a lot of big UK acts they just didn't find an audience because they sound like so many other bands...and who likes the brooding angry artist thing anymore?
I dislike their music...A LOT!

ExcedrinHeadache 2008-12-01 12:45:01 PM
We saw Oasis in concert not too long ago, and it was, without hyperbole, the worst concert I've ever seen. And I saw The Jets live at King's Dominion theme park when I was a kid.

They were arrogant and useless, and they sounded terrible. Their opening bands were ridiculous. A severe waste of money.

And I didn't hate them enough to badmouth them before. I do now.
