A damn fine pop band, funny thing is they didn't write their biggest hit and didn't even want to record it.

they are above "pop" in many ways

in some ways some of their songs have some prog influence, and they are all damn fine musicians. Same applies for Tears for Fears and Terrence Trent D'Arby ( among many others), yet all three were eventually pushed aside and lost in the shuffle because they weren't interested in making adhd-style top 40 hits for children and brain damaged adults.

hell yes they are and I agree with the rest of your post as well. Though really Tears for Fears and Simple Minds had a good string of hits, and Tears for Fears had some big albums. Also their overall success wasn't necessarily reflected in their US success.

Were they "Alive and Kicking" after the show, subby?

This is true. For me, between Simple Minds and Tears for Fears, their respective best albums are probably either Good News from the Next World, and Elemental, though Songs from the Big Chair was also a really great album that I currently have on my mp3 player. Simple Minds put a lot more material out there compaired to TFF, and once Curt Smith left the group, you got to really see Roland Orzabal's lack of song writing ability. Shame really. If they could have worked out their garbage, there would have been a lot more good music from the two.

Though, at this point, even though im a long time TFF fan, I have to say that Simple Minds is my favorite of the two. Jim Kerr definately has the ability to come up with some very good music. It's no surprise that they put on a good show. Talent always rises to the surface.

Walkenstein:

I can't believe you compared TFF & TTD with Simple MInds. I saw them about a week ago - they were ridiculous. Talk about going through the motions. No offense if you're a fan.

On the flipside, Sinéad O'Connor was also on the bill and amazingly good (and in tune).

I know that people in the UK can't sue over just about anything like we can in the US, but there's definitely fraud going on with Simple Minds "original members" advertising shenanigans. Derek Forbes isn't playing bass? No Mick McNeil on keyboards? It's got their best drummer, Mel Gaynor, but once again, it's Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill touring using the name. Bah, I hate when bands do that.

Love their albums from Empires and Dance > my favo(u)rite, Sparkle in the Rain. I saw them at the Hollywood Palladium in 1985 without knowing a note of their music and was blown away, great live band back then.

Seconded. On Fark, everything and everyone sucks. Even if they don't.

I know... I suck.
But you do too, so...
