Honestly, I'm not a fan of Obama. I voted against him, and I activly campained against him.

That being said, I'm fairly impressed that most of his cabinet nominations seem to be fairly middle of the road, which is what the country needs write now.

Believe me, I love to get in political discussions, but I'd rather talk about policy, rather than "You're side is evil, and they suck, and need to get sucked into a black hole and rot in hell!" There's too much of that on both sides. I genuinely, hope Obama does well. I hope so for the sake of all Americans, not this, "Oh yeah.... you people are really going to get yours now!" feeling that has become all too common.

As far as Rove goes.... say what you will about his politics, but he's an incredibly astute political mind. After all, he managed to get Bush elected, not once..... but twice.

I've been hearing that a lot from conservatives and it's really refreshing considering how much crap they've gotten from the Democrats for Bush. It would make me feel like a moron for being so anti-Bush, but he's done a great job at realizing some, though not all, of my fears of his administration.

Well.... I voted for Bush twice, but I'm pretty far from agreeing with him on everything. On several issues I agree with him all the way, but also several times I'm going, "WTF are you thinking?" Like ANWAR (stay the hell out of refuges), or immigration, and his support of the repeated bailouts.... that sort of thing.

I'm a dyed in the wool conservative, but all I can say is, "Is this the best our country has to offer?" On BOTH sides of the political isle. I see politicians everyday that make me ask, "Where was THIS guy? Why didn't he run?"

The whole political scene in America has gotten way to hateful and divisive, and as a result, I think the average American feels kinda left out of the whole process with the far left and far right taking center stage. What ever happened to it just being cool to have a different viewpoint? Fox News presents one viewpoint, MSNBC presents another. But instead of, "Ehh.... I don't like that station, so I'll watch another.... or maybe go to the House marathon in hopes of seeing Dr. Cuddy wearing something that shows off her butt", it's now, "We should burn down the building and rape their cattle and sell off their children to slavery."

I think people need to take a step back, have a deep breath, and try to work together as Americans rather than just Democrats and Republicans for awhile.... at least until the next election.

I agree. I'm fairly young and grew up knowing only Clinton scandals and Bush mocking, so it is shocking to me that Americans are finally fed up enough with everything that we're emerging from this juvenile, blind hatred of the other side. I fully expected to hear my Republican friends take a hard-line, offensive view point of Obama, but that hasn't really happened, and I'm glad. It's just nice to finally hear productive, rational discussions of politics (such as Rove's article).

Karl Rove knows what most young Americans don't understand. Administrations change back and forth like the wind. In the real world pragmatism is more important than dogma. It's that pragmatism that allowed Orrin Hatch to recommend Ruth Ginsberg to Clinton for the supreme court. If you look at Obamas team, you see some very left wing people (especially for domestic matters), Centrist/Right Wing people (economic policy), and a fairly centrist (meaning that there should be few complaints on most matters from all sides) international policy.

The only real complaint most conservatives should have is in healthcare and environmental regulations. Though, I must admit, appointing a guy who helped Clintion come to understand that the CDS market would not be a problem to the cabinet seems suspect to me. He clearly has had a problem with understanding the role of regulation in the market to prevent an economic crisis. I hope he's learned his lesson since then.

I'd never really thought about it - but you make an excellent point. Anyone who could get GWB elected twice in a row could sell gasoline to a guy who was on fire.

kos's opinion on this is the correct one.

It's positioning the GOP on a issue they are supposed to hate to get their base on board, so later they can flip it around and say "he was soo good and moderate on the economy, whats this universal health care and energy Independence shiat?"

Guess "socialism" goes out the door when your party lost and caused a huge fiscal meltdown

TyrantII: Guess "socialism" goes out the door when your party lost and caused a huge fiscal meltdown

That's not a complete assessment. What's causing this mess is two fold.

1. The completely unregulated CDS market. It was specifically exempted from regulation in 2000 under Clinton. Yes, he signed it and a fully bipartisan vote of yes happen in both houses of congress.
2. The sub prime mortgage market. Also, specifically started under the behest of Clinton.

Our entire federal government fell asleep at the wheel. Both parties, democrats and republicans have been listening to the drum beat of "deregulation" for far too long. That's why we are here. Look, I NEVER liked the Bush administration and I'm not much of a fan of post Sept 11th Republicans, but to lame THEM and ONLY THEM for this mess is not admitting the truth. Our system that was put in place during and after the great depression in order to prevent another economic crisis from happening has been dismantled by both parties for 30 years now.

They all have failed us and we kept voting for them. We need for bear minded economists in the cabinet, the bulls have run us all down.

Rove is the ultimate pragmatist.
It's not so much about ideology with him,
Its about what works.

Machiavellian to the core.
Not evil, just knows the system and people to his own ends.

Once he gets further away from his own "history",
then he'd become an exceptional "talking head"
and I'd like to hear his perspective.

You'll likely see what's really going down.
