I think this is a great idea. After all, who other than Bill Clinton would you want to call when there's a hole to fill?

burndtdan 2008-11-28 01:58:23 PM
i really doubt he would be interested.

...just for the Freeper meltdown.

Like one of the comments said, what's the upside for Bill?

What if he farks up the state through a series of poor decisions, or loses reelection? Does he really want that to tarnish his reputation in the history books?

True, true.

The wailing and gnashing of teeth from Freeperland will be like a symphony of whine.

I mean... hell... the poor distraught things are alreay babbling some crap about "look Liberals we told you so that Obama was really a centrist!!!111" as some ort of mantra of failure.

If they have to face Bill Clinton in office again, the wingers may all just become unhinged.

WJC in the Senate would be awesome. He could move bills through like nobody since LBJ.

Note to the over-eager: Bill Clinton "sex" jokes are not an indicator of wit. They are an indicator of the lack of wit.

I don't know, but I did once know of a general who became a slave, and a slave who became a gladiator.

Spoiler: he died.

Personally, I wanted Bill to be Secretary of State. He was well liked around the world, and still is, and doesn't have nearly the baggage that comes along with Hillary. He would have made a good chief diplomat on the part of Obama.

Though, knowing him, he would probably be far too forceful when it came to policy, trying to take the lead instead of following Obama's.

Absolutely. There's no better way for Obama to help unite the country than to enable two of the slimiest, most loathed politicians in America to attain more political power.

On the other hand, maybe Obama should try to convince the Clintons to maintain a lower profile so the Bill and Hillary show doesn't distract him from his own political objectives.

That all depends on what the definition of "snizz" is.

ok, I think I may have been misinformed but, I thought that once a person became President, they could not be in another public office ever. Can someone clear this up for me?

thornhill 2008-11-28 03:05:09 PM
It would never happen in a million years.

The Senate is built on seniority. One of the reasons HRC is leaving the Senate is because she's not senior enough to work on health care reform.

The folks who have waited 30 years to capture leadership positions and committee chairs are not going to suddenly role over for Bill.

So why would a former leader of the free world want to become a freshman member of a legisture?

Now Bill running for mayor of NYC or Governor of NY I could believe, especially now that he's agreed to cut back on the work he does for his foundation.

i'm pretty sure bill left office with high favorability ratings. you have to try to keep in mind, you and your friends are not a fair representation of the majority of americans.

even my republican father likes bill clinton.

See "Andrew Johnson," "John Q. Adams," "William Howard Taft"

Former (teo-term) Presidents can't be President again or VP.

But Jimmy Carter and George H W Bush can still be President for one term.

Bill Clinton had the highest end-of-service approval ratings of any President since they started tracking approval ratings during FDR's term. (In contrast, George W. is on track to beat Nixon's record for the worst approval ratings when leaving office.)

That doesn't count as "most loathed" in my book.

He can't.

He can't serve in any Federal position.

He can serve on the State level, or on a local level. He could be a mayor.

He can't ever serve again at the Federal Level.

That is completely incorrect. John Quincy Adams was a representative after being president, Andrew Johnson was a Senator afterwards, and Will H. Taft became the Cheif Justice to the Supreme Court after his presidency.

rynthetyn 2008-11-28 03:34:19 PM
Hmm, if getting him back in office would keep him out of trouble and keep him from screwing things up for Obama, I wouldn't mind it, even though I'm not a fan of the guy. I just don't know if that would be enough to make him behave himself.

IndyGemini: most loathed politicians in America

See, this is what is wrong with the GOP. Bill was the most popular president in recent history, with, as has been pointed out, unprecedented high approval ratings. Hillary just came within a whisker (give or take) of being president.

But the neocon dimwits only watch Fox news, and think the whole world thinks the looney ideas of Bill and Sean are the actual opinion of the 'real" America.

Go back and look at the elction map, neocons. You won the former slave states and the empty states west of the Missisippi where nobody lives. Your base is ignorant racists and fundie bible-bashing loonies. Hence the popularity of Palin with your base, and the revulsion of the entire civilised world, bar you few nutjobs.

Nobody likes your politics, and nobody likes you. Go away and quit making America look bad.

Obama is only a few years younger than Roberts. It'll take a young retirement to get Barack in the Chief Justice chair in anything close to a timely manner.

He'd probably have to take too much of a pay cut for a job too low on status pole. I can't seem him doing it.

Chief Justice? Sure. Secretary of the UN? Absolutely. Both of those positions have some significant standing. One of one hundred Senators? No.
