awesome submission, subby.

One of the finest moments in history. She had ignored Jimi until he made it big, he was annoyed that she acted like a big fan all of a sudden, and decided to Cream Roll the show.

Jamespoon [TotalFark] 2008-11-28 01:12:36 AM
I love Jimi. He was a master guitarist and musical artist in the purest sense of the word.

Quite often I'm equally impressed with Mitch Mitchell on the drums as I am with Jimi on the guitar. He was awesome too. RIP to both.

And Noel Redding too of course!

Last I heard he was still dead.

I idolize Hendrix and all that, but I guess it never crossed His mind to hire a guit-tech that could figure out a way to keep a strat in tune while whammybar-ing, or maybe do the bar-thing at the end of the song?
I've heard so much great playing from Him that is unlistenable cuz He knocked it outta tune fuggin' around making cool noises. I realize it's fun, but c'mon.

Gavino 2008-11-28 04:42:44 AM
What Jamespoon said.
Not what pipco said. If you can find out how to make a 68 strat stay in tune, there's a lot of people would like to hear from you. Nobody could play around the limitations of the instrument like JMH.

Happy Birthday (new window)

Bill Hicks said it best:

Jimi played his COCK.

Dude was a walking instrument. I fully believe that he popped out of his mom's cooch playing a guitar solo. Had to have.

Excellent choice, I've been a fan of that clip for a long time now.

Not bad for a guy from Renton, I'd say. Funny thing is, I've never been to see his grave even though I only grew up a few miles from it.

/Oh, and happy birthday, Jimi!

Wind the strings up the peg to make less tension at the nut. It helps

Also this cat's birthday as well. Lived in Seattle, taught as a visiting lecturer on Eastern Philosophy at Garfield High, where Jimmy also went to school. Also Quincy Jones.

That is rock in its purest form.

I was there in July. It's more of a mausoleum type thing. Very grand looking but rather forlorn in it's peaceful location. I saw a few other fans taking photos but it is very quiet, especially in such a big park.

A few people left guitar picks inside the domey thing.

I intend to visit both graves when I go to Seattle in January.

I understand he was actually moved in November of '02 to the new location. Too bad no one could have a peek to see what he looked like.

Seattle is a way cool place. We did our Bruce and Jimi tributes too whilst we were there, and visited their graves - note that Renton is a bit out in the sticks. We also checked out Garfield High School, but it was being renovated so couldn't get inside - apparently there's a bust of jimi in the entrance hall, which we thought would be cool to see, but alas..you may have better luck though...make sure to check out the EMP, the microsoft guy has a Hendrix museum type thing which is very, very cool...there's also a Jimi statue near Edison tech, i forget what it's called now..Seattle community college? Anyway, nice tribute.

yeah, it's like a family plot with other Henrdrixs laid outside, surrounding Jimi's in the center..lots of space left...

I can see why they moved it, as the other place, where Bruce is - in Lakeview is always busy with vistors. Every few minutes there were people going to Bruce and Brandon's. Jimi's place is really peaceful.

A side note. I heard that Courtney Love wanted Cobain to be at Lakeview too but they vetoed the idea given how many fans would visit the place, and so told her to go elsewhere. Not sure where he's resting - doesn't Love carry him in a cremation jar?

I'm proud to share my b-day with Jimi and Bruce . . . what a combo

He was such a monster guitar player, not necessarily the greatest musician or technician, but what a feel for the instrument. Any of us guitarists would give our left nut and then some to have it come so naturally (or at least seem like it did).

Sorry for the "get off my lawn" comment to follow, but today's musicians are often jaded. I hear so often that somebody doesn't get what the big deal was, or that he was overrated. Invariably the person saying that is under 25 years old, and simply lacks appreciation for the time and place that Jimi played. If you have a true understanding of rock and roll circa the late 60s, you realize it's impossible to overstate just how important he was to the genre, and to guitar playing in particular. His influence has saturated rock music ever since.

Great clip - thanks for the posting subby!

im with every word of this. yes he was sloppy and farked up alot live, but who wasnt back then? when he was on, he was IT. machine gun from band of gypsys has yet to be eclipsed.

to be honest im more into his songs than his playing though. like jerry-if he didnt get so trashed it wouldve been alot better, but the dude was young. still doesnt take away from how rad he was when he wasnt obliterated. the best ive heard him play lead guitar is on a boot from 65.
