I am so pissed I missed the show in Atlanta. I am quite envious of my brother and friends that went.

That was a big slice of win smothered in awesome sauce. Maybe if I stop tearing the wings off of flies and leaving the toilet seat up Santa will leave this DVD in my stocking.

It sucks.

Why?

They dropped the key so much that even Kris Kristofferson could hit the high notes.

If you can't sing it anymore, Geddy, then don't.

Flab: Can someone explain the barbecued chickens behind Geddy?

Um, dorky R(esidents)U(under)S(atans)H(ouse) humor? When I saw them years ago, he had laundromat washer/dryers behind him.

Too bad he doesn't have the high notes anymore, the vocal line sounds "off" on that.

/Not a big fan
//Farewell To Kings is a great album though

Goddammit, why couldn't you have posted this two hours ago? I just wasted a bunch of time listening to and enjoying it. Hell, I even went out of my way posting a comment about how much I liked it just to find out it shouldn't even exist. Now I look like a fool and I'm holding you responsible. I hope you're proud of yourself.

Wow, now THIS is amazing - 2112 from 1976. Geddy sounds fantastic, or at least just how I want him to!

Sorry, will stop the geeky youtube searching now ;)

Flab: Can someone explain the barbecued chickens behind Geddy?

From what I understand Geddy's bass plugs in direct and he no longer needs the on-stage amps. After years of having stacks of amplifiers on stage it seemed empty so he started filling the space with other objects.

Flab: Can someone explain the barbecued chickens behind Geddy?

that would be Geddy's sense of humour.
Used to be, hsi bass amps were back there, but he goes through the arena's own speakers now, so he has to put something back there. one tour, it was dryers with shirts they'd toss out to fans during the show (JUST MISSED ONE IN 2002), then they had rotisserie sandwich machines, and now the rotisserie chickens.

Sorry to have been the one to tell you the emperor has no voice.

Time and overuse take their toll; he has to accept it and move onto songs he can still handle.

Ender's: Very envious of the people who got to see this.

Yeah they now come to Verizon amphitheater on the northside so its a much better show.

If any Rush fans have the means I highly recommend that you see them when they come to red rocks in Colorado, it was probably the best show I have ever seen. Hell you could see anyone there and it would be great but Rush was farking insane there, also FYI alcohol hits you quicker if you arent used to the altitude and average pot turns into great weed.

Good times.

Geddy endorses a device called SANS AMP which in French literally means "without an amp"

Sans Amp is made by Tech 21 and is a small box or a single space rack unit that very closely simulates the sound of a close mic'd tube amp. Geddy uses their "Bass Driver" version.

The idea is that you don't have to drag around a big stack of heavy and expensive tube amps around to get that warm crunchy sound. (Geddy used to play Ampeg bass amps which weighed about 200 lbs each)

The Sans Amp simply sends your instrument's signal to the house P.A. system.

However,I am sure Rush's road crew is happy that despite his Sans Amp,he requires that they move a bunch of washer-dryers and/or rotisserie ovens to every gig instead.

I hope the roadies get the joke.

Can someone explain the barbecued chickens behind Geddy?

It doesn't mean anything except that it is 'dorky' Rush humor as Henry Holland mentioned earlier, and the crowd eats it up.

Perhaps Geddy's alter ego, Harry Satchel, and some of his friends can explain it better.

This opens the second half of the show. Video & audio is a little rough, but you'll get the idea (or maybe not).

this. I can't say 2112(though more specifically, the title track, which does take up more than half the album) is anything other typical prog-wankery. Yet, A Farewell to Kings, while still geeky prog shiat, seems to get overlooked outside Closer to the Heart.

Um.. their roadies don't touch any of that shiat - the stagehands have to carry it all in. Roadies tell them where to put it.

/I rig so I just get to watch the stage monkeys wrestle all that heavy crap around.

//on the other hand, I get to haul all of their heavy-ass motor chains into the ceiling.

There's some incorrect info here...

- Geddy uses the Tech 21 Sansamp RBI. It's a rackmountable, more full-featured version of the SansAmp Bass Driver DI.

- He also runs direct to the board through and sends the direct signal and the RBI signal both through Palmer speaker simulators, and mixes these signals to adjust for the venue.

- Geddy played Ampeg in the 70s like everyone else who played bass, but before he went with the DI rig his amps of choice were Trace Elliot and before that, Gallien-Kruger (both him and Alex were G-K endorsers up until Counterparts, when Geddy went back to his Fender Jazz after years of playing high end Wal basses)

The fact that he's been singing for 35 years+, and the way he does it; no, he can't hit the high notes like he used to. Sinatra couldn't hit the same notes at 55 that he could at 35, either. Let me know if your voice doesn't drop an octave or so when you reach your mid-50s; I know mine has, and I don't even sing.
It's called getting older...
