Playing this song on Thanksgiving has been a tradion of mine since the 70's. I've seen Arlo about 5 times over the years. One of the best and funniest entertainers one can still go see.

Thanks Submitter!

The song was almost 20 minutes long. They played it so the DJs could stuff themselves along with the rest of us.

First time I ever heard this song was at my grandparent's house, as Thanksgiving was being prepared. I was probably about 10 years old. I'm currently listening to it with my 11 year old son. Not a bad way to spend a day.

I've got in on vinyl too. Awesome song and a good movie too.

/Arlo would probably have something smart ass to say to all you haters. I don't know what but I take pleasure in knowing he would.

dreadprophet 2008-11-27 12:23:35 PM
I believe it's actually called "Alice's Restaurant Massacree."

I find it to be vaguely amusing. It's on my computer somewhere. I just don't often bother.

Timdesuyo 2008-11-27 12:23:42 PM
Believe it or not, this is my alarm clock. Sometimes I switch it to Old Blue Eyes, just for a change.

Arlo used to have to come to my house and sing it for me since there were no recording devices available back when I was a kid.

Am I the only one that doesn't get this song? Be honest.

It's harder to follow than a Law and Order episode. Am I right?

I came here to flame subby in some way but stayed for all 18 min and 34 sec. Thanks, really, I mean it. At least one small part of this lonely day will seem like Thanksgiving for me.

Talked for 18 minutes, and noone understood a word he said, but we had fun complaining about it on the Farks.

Thanks, subby!

Years ago, my friend learned the guitar just so that he could play + sing this song.
I'll have to thank Jeremy for introducing me to the joys of Arlo.
Wonder if Jer still plays guitar.

Happy Thanksgiving to Arlo + everyone else!

I once drove from DC to central PA on Thanksgiving morning, hopping radio stations along the way and never heard anything else besides Alice's Restaurant.

My passangers were ready to kill me, but I loved it. LOL.

My brother Steve can..and used to recite the entire thing every Thanksgiving
