For those that don't follow things in Thailand, Thaksin used to be the Prime Minister in Thailand and was overthrown in a bloodless coup a few years back. The military reinstated the old constitution and gave back power to form a new government. Since then both Thaksin and his wife have been convicted of fraud from their private businesses and are currently facing several trials on additional accounts. Thaksin and his wife fled Thailand. Thaksin tried to get granted asylum in the UK, however the UK revoked his visa instead.

Thaksin's old party formed a new political party and managed to win the largest chunk of seats in the government. The first PM was recently forced out of office for lieing about what he was getting paid to host a local TV show. Basically the show was a cover for bribery/money laundering, "Oh we're not bribing the PM, we're compensating him for hosting a cooking show". So he's out. The new PM is the son in law to Thaksin and is believed by many to be a puppet for Thaksin. The party that controls the government has recently been found guilty of vote tampering/buying and is waiting for the process to finish, but will likely be forced to dissolve.

So the protesters are upset that Thaksin, a convicted felon on the run, is believed to be running the country via his son-in-law, and that the ruling party is only in power due to voter fraud (which they've been found guilty of).

Here's the great Dr. Jay Siegel and The Tokens still getting it done.

I'm also kind of partial to this version by Eno.
