They should recruit Amy Winehouse.

Axl's not real busy anymore.

You mean apart from the part about him rolling around in a pile money while fapping over every single chart update?

Chinese Democracy actually feels better than both Slither and Contraband to my ears, but Chinese Democracy is missing a whole lot of Slash guitarneckwanking and some checks on Axl's "good ideas" in order to be a truly great album.

Chinese Democracy pisses over both Velvet Revolver albums, which no amount of Slash riffery could save.

Or the part where he goes limp at the thought of having been fronted 15 mil and now having to pay that money back? It's like something's missing, but something's right.

Axl probably makes 15 mil a year on royalties. Drug-free, intelligent, crafty, control-freak that he is, I'm sure he doesn't worry about finances. ever. What he should be worried about is hitting the high notes on those albums - I YTubed a bunch of concerts from '06. Yeesh.

I thought Libertard was spotty with some great stuff (American Man, Just Sixteen), but that first VR album is a classic (minus the first ballad and last song). And I don't think you can compare Contraband to Chinese Democracy. CD is about creating complex stadium-style epics a la Queen and Zeppelin. Contraband is short, get-to-it hard rock a la Rocks & Appetite. In that way, I think it's more fair to compare Contra w/AfD and CD w/UYI.

Everybody wants to make comparisons to Appetite. That album happened once and won't happen again.

If I could've been arsed to open my photobucket, I would've inserted a .gif of applause here.

Artists sometimes but a lot of effort and most of their talent into their debut album. After that, they can churn out 10-16 songs and decide that it's an album, until they encounter a producer with the balls to tell them "NO!"

Ref.: Metallica's "The Black Album"

Appetite was a perfect storm and combination of all (Izzy, Slash & Axl) talents. Take away Izzy and you get Use your Illusions. Take away Slash and you get CD.

I don't think Slash was as good on the "Use your Illusions" simply because Izzy's blues based influence was a perfect fit for his style. Slash flat out jammed on Appetite. The use your illusion records sounded like he phoned his solo's in from home.

The band is at it's best when it was live, sloppy, and simple.

Actually I think it was David Lee Roth who said that...

F-IT, I'm in. Didn't like V.R. at all but I think they just need a singer with some balls... and I've got 'em.

Doesn't matter that I can't sing. Never stopped Axl that whiney shrieking doof. Anyone can mimik that sound.

So Slash, you want to make a BRUTAL album? Call me. We can meet up at the Frolic Room again, I'll buy you a drink or we can head over to the Clown Room with L.K.

I'm in your band

Kind of off topic, but I saw Weiland on Leno the other night promoting his solo album...

And he sounded HORRIBLE! Sounded like he couldn't hit a good note to save his life. That could have been just that night, or he's just completely lost it.

Look it up if you don't believe me, his voice was just... awful.

I've said it before, I'll say it again - hire Corey Glover.

JEFF SCOTT SOTO. Period. End of search.

Axl doesn't have the right band - VR doesn't have the right singer. I'll give it three more years until they get the hint and need the cash. GnR 2012, just in time for the hall of fame induction.

Chinese Democracy is pretty much the shiat. It could use Slash's touch though. And maybe an Izzy song thrown in here or there.

Five Tails of Fury 2008-11-26 04:45:39 PM
Someone on the radio here said that they should hire Lenny Kravitz. Thankfully, I didn't have anything in my mouth, 'cuz I'd have spit it all over my car in the hurry to shout "FARK YOU!" at the DJ.

I'd be intrigued to see if Chris Cornell could work with them. He's got a great voice, when he's not trying to sing Rage songs (ye gods, that's ugly). Probably not the right fit, but it'd be worth a try.

rogue49 2008-11-27 09:51:03 AM
From what I understand from Slash's book,
they had just a hard time the first time finding a singer.

There's just not that many really good singers
that fit the quality, style, originallity, attitude and edge that Slash is looking for.

American Idol winner Daughtry has the first three,
but not that last...and Slash won't go for someone who is too "controlled"

Much less, you are making up your own music, and not just singing others'
That takes a special artistry...
