I think the polls are pretty meaningless in a run-off election. The only question that would really matter is "are you actually going to bother to vote on the day?" Get-out-the-vote drives will be everything in this case.

Who is more motivated following the election? I find it hard to tell for sure. If Fark is anything to go by the losing side is full of impotent rage and paranoid fear, so maybe the advantage goes to the Douchebag in this case. I think a "stop Obama getting 60 votes and raping your daughters over a Koran" message will get out more voters than a "hey, let's try to get one more Senate seat!" message.

Not to mention that 60 Dems is no guarantee of anything. There are conservative Dems more interesting in reelection than giving Obama or Reid whatever they want. There are even a few moderate Republicans who vote with Dems fairly often. The "filibuster proof" thing makes for good, provocative teevee discussion, but the idea that every Senator in the caucus will vote exactly alike on every issue is nonsense.

But mostly this is about Chambliss being an absolutely gargantuan prick, and I hate seeing a-holes like him win, regardless of party ID.
