Yeah, everybody knows that you need to march in lock step behind the leader without questioning anything. If we learned anything over the last eight years it's that the Party comes first. Don't even read the bill just sign what the Speaker tells you to.

THAT"S loyalty!

I find it really amusing how the Freepers and other right-wing retards on Fark keep on clutching to anything, no matter how petty, to try and justify their continued relevance.

On second thoughts, it's just pathetic.

"When you're playing with live ammunition and you have to actually live with the consequences of the policy, it's much, much tougher," said Michael Steel, a spokesman for House Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio). "Do Democrats really want to hamstring U.S. manufacturers with new climate change regulations in the current economic climate?"

Concerned Republican spokesman is concerned.

You mean ... actually function as a congress of representatives of different state constituencies, and use debate and negotiation to weigh their various priorities in order to formulate policy?

The traitors!

Why don't the all just hardwire their YEA/NAY buttons into the party whip's desk like the Republicans do?

Hey, I remember trying to console myself in 2000 with speculation that Cheney was REALLY from Texas and would be DQ'ed...and how about the sheer despair of '04?

So when reading about their sad efforts to distract themselves from failure and powerlessness, remember:

Can't you fools at least wait until the new Congress is in session before you start pretending to have the faintest idea what they're doing?

And FYI, robust debate is often a feature of the political process, even among allies. Just because the Republicans have been marching in robotic lockstep and gutting dissenters for the past eight years doesn't mean that's the way it's supposed to be.

I'm actually feeling slightly better about voting mostly Dem because of the development described in the headline. Internal conflict means it might actually be the moderate party again. Good thing, too, was thinking we weren't gonna have one for a while.

I think this is what pisses of the right wing. They are used to bending over and taking in the establishment and never dared to question Bush or his cohorts.

Actually, in this case the article is pretty reasonable. It's just the subby's trollerific headline that's stupid. It's true that it's harder for the party in power to maintain party unity (or at least, to prevent exposing their disagreements) than it is for the party out of power. Doesn't meant they won't get anything done, of course, but it does mean that there are some issues which will require some delicate negotiation.

A lot will depend on how successful overall Obama's presidency is. If you head toward the election with the Presidency's popularity riding high, Congressmen facing tough reelection battles are more likely to be willing to take stances that are less popular with their constituencies. If the President's popularity is slipping, they'll be in CYA mode and watching every vote's potential to end up highlighted in a campaign ad for their opponent.

Imagine if to do your job it requires a personality that is generally arrogant, greedy, manipulative, deceitful, territorial, aggressive, cunning, pragmatic and all around assholish.

Now let's multiply you by 535, throw in a crowd of 300 million screaming idiots, crushing pressure, sleazy and demanding lobbyists, and a swarm of those giant japanese hornets.

To top it off, you split it down the middle, assign teams basically at random, and then force each person to follow one of two crazy scripts, any variance from which can cost you your job.

Now we should take those people, force them into a stadium, and make them fight with bats until only two are left standing.

Then make those two run the American Gladiator obstacle course.

The winner gets to be fired into the sun.

As does the loser. And the rest of them.

Pelosi is the worst because she is a Democrat (thus she should, by definition, be better) and should do more than sit on her damn hands (I am certain Phil despises her for much different reasons).

So, she all but disowned a gay sister? Or asked a spouse to sign divorce papers while they were in the hospital recovering from cancer? Was having an affair while persecuting a sitting president for getting some action on the side?

No, I heard she shut down the government on a personal issue, and then presided over the cover-up of a pederast, pulled some earmarks to make herself a shiatload of money on a land deal, and is in bed with convicted lobbiests.
