Cool find...I love the X-ray. Was that really necessary?

we had a garden snake break into our baby chicks one year. my sister offered the helpful suggestion of cutting the snake open in hopes that the chicks were still alive. for some reason, my dad obliged. it was not a pretty sight.

Um, yeah.

Oh, and some Farker noted a while back that anytime she saw the word "ass" hyphenated with anything as a descriptor, she mentally moved the hyphen over one word, which usually made it hilarious.

Big ass-snake. Try that as a mental picture. Now picture a big ass-snake eating golf balls.

I chuckled at that. The x-ray is a great shot.

The X-Ray was absolutely necessary. This wouldn't have been nearly as good without it.

MicroE: I bet snakes are pretty easy to operate on

Yes, they are! Just take any shovel and slice the head off and problem solved.

Really, did they have to spend all that time and money on operating on the snake? It was trying to eat some chicken eggs after all; it's a wild snake. It's not like Australia is going to run out of snakes.

Where's the slideshow of what happens when the big-ass snake has to pass those golf balls?

I'd imagine it'd be a lot like some certain shows in Thailand.

In one of the veterinary magazines that I used to see all the time in the clinic, they had a contest every year to see what was the weirdest thing a vet had found via X-ray in an animal. Every year, without fail, there is an X-ray of a snake who has eaten golf balls. The most in one snake I think is 20 or something close to that number.

The X-rays that are the creepiest are when the pets have eaten something metallic. The funniest ones are just the owners who don't know what to feed their dogs, so the dogs end up getting constipated and they get a lot of gas stuck in their intestines. Those X-rays, you can just tell that when that dog finally has a BM, you don't want to be anywhere near it due to the stench.

/dog farts are the deadliest kind of silent gas.

I was more interested in the headline under past stories: "Snake explodes after gator dinner." Sadly, only one picture and not a terribly good one at that.

That's a very old story. I remember seeing it years ago. There is a slideshow of it somewhere, with better photos and a story. It may take some serious googling.

I read the haunted-sofa thread before this one. Now I have a better idea why the haunted sofa is squeaking: It's really a big-ass snake trying to pass a bunch of golf balls.

POOR snake the owner should be executed for letting that happen
/Well some of you feel that way about dogs and their dipshyt owners

supernova903 2008-11-24 12:40:25 AM
This must have been some random people who happened to have chickens.

Things may be different on the other side of the world but protocol on the farm that I was raised on was that snakes (other than garter) are to be dispatched with using a hoe (or any available sharp instrument) immediately. The logic behind this is that they eat the babies of animals that we humans like to eat.... we don't like the competition... or having to listen to a baby rabbit screaming bloody murder while a snake tries to swallow it butt first.

If you find a snake that has swallowed golf balls and don't feel like eating it or making it into a pair of shoes, kill it to put it quickly out of it's misery, grab it's tail and swing it around your head... for your amusement and to see if the balls come out of it's mouth, or leave it to die (if you're feeling sadistic) from a really bad case of constipation. Don't take the darned thing to a vet unless you plan to pay the bill and keep it as a pet...... it would be more merciful to simply kill it on sight than nurse it through recovery.

Over here in the U.S. they put fake eggs in the nest to deal with snakes that eat eggs and chicks. Let Darwin cull out the dumber predators.

When my aunt had her farm, if we arrived in the morning to find a busted hoe on the porch, we knew she had an encounter with a snake the night before. The first order of the day was to buy a new hoe handle and install it.

Snakes occasionally got packed into bales when we were putting up hay. The ones we caught live were thrown into the hog lot for entertainment. Hogs will play tug-of-war with a snake in order to gain the biggest portion for themselves.

Will that work for other unwanted pests? Like, say, persistent bike Mormons, or hookers?

Persistent hookers? Where in god's name do you live that you have a persistent hooker pest problem? And is that really a place where you could have a hog pen big enough to solve that kind of problem?

I wonder how much that operation cost.

All for a stupid snake.

Meanwhile, there's more than a million homeless in America.

Great priorities there...

Yeah stupid snake but some of you people will pay 500 times more for a dogs medical expenses
also for the people that want snakes removed go right ahead dumbasses and let field mice and rats get to your crops
/Why not remove the other predators like eagles and owls since they kill farm animals also

The_Pole_Of_Justice 2008-11-24 03:02:48 AM
Has it occurred to anyone that operating on the snake is good practice/publicity for vets?
