Pretty alarming considering the US plan to put interceptor missiles in Poland. Add in Russia's deal to help Venezuela build a nuclear reactor, and it becomes a pretty volatile mix.

FredaDeStilleto [TotalFark] 2008-11-23 05:58:31 PM
Sorry, subby, but I think your headline is misleading.

Shots were allegedly fired at the motorcade. No one knows who fired the shots, if shots were fired because the areas where the Georgian and Polish president were traveling were not "secure". The shots may have come from Russian soldier(s), but they were not acting under orders. Additionally, is a dispute on where the alleged incident occurred.

Read the article subby - talk about a really misleading headline.

Hey Subby, why don't you show the Russians some respect? should read..

'Russian officials organize shots to be taken at presidential convoy by local militants'

anyone who doesn't think this Russia is behind this is a fool...but anyone who thinks Russia is stupid enough to have their own troops do it is equally foolish

Oh NO !!!

Seriously, it's getting to the point where I click on a headline expecting to read something crazy only to find out that the submitter can't read and has taken the Modmins with him on his non-reading rainbow.

It's a funny news site, sure. Let's at least have fun the truth and not just some bullshiat we wanna throw up on the main page.

This, to me, makes PITA look like a boobies thread.

Silovik: anyone who doesn't think this Russia is behind this is a fool...but anyone who thinks Russia is stupid enough to have their own troops do it is equally foolish

What does Russia have to gain from this that's worth the loss in PR? If the Russians wanted him dead or scared they'd have used something with a bit more punch than bullets that don't even hit anyone. Now the Georgian president has quite a bit to gain from a couple of shots fired at him by the "Russians" that don't actually injure him. You're assuming that the Russians are evil and everyone else is a saint.

gund 2008-11-23 08:26:44 PM
Why would the georgian and polish president be even near south ossetia? The georgian capital is hundreds of miles away. Why didn't they give a reason for being there? Visiting the unstable border? Expect to get shot at. Or did you fake it to get international sympathy?

This. Follow the money.

Had the Russians really fired on these clowns, the clowns would have been as dead as the Katyn POWs.

"The Russians fired on us and missed" has been Poles' favorite fantasy for centuries, but never happened.

Or maybe President Kasinski is really dead, and this is his twin brother speaking.

"It's a mark of the instability in the region that there are a lot of parties that could of shot something, if indeed it was directed at the motorcade today," said Jensen in an interview with CTV Newsnet.

Sigh.

Who was with the Georgian president? And where were they? The Kremlin does not care about PR, they will deny this, but the right people know who the message was for...

TheBigJerk 2008-11-23 08:48:20 PM
Just guessing here, but I'll gamble the truth is that Russian pawns did the shooting, the Motorcade went by the (illegal) checkpoint for the purpose of getting shot at, and Russia is going to be a serious problem for a long time to come.

Actually, scratch that, I think it was a hit job contracted by the Usurians who are seeking to expand their Russian operations.

Right. Or the Russians could just kill him on a random street in Poland, or could have killed him a long time ago back when he was mayor of Warsaw and named a street after Dzhokhar Dudaev... but they didnt. And they didnt try to kill him here either. Question: is subby able to read?

Most of the younger ones are currently in England fixing everyone's plumbing and swearing at bus drivers for not letting them on whilst swigging from cans of lager. Not a lot of suffering getting through the booze haze, methinks..

If the Kremlin really didn't care about PR then they wouldn't deny this. Really, what do they have to gain by shooting at them? They didn't even kill anyone or hit anyone.

If they wanted to send a message like you suggest, they would have killed a few guys, made it obvious the motorcade was done for, then backed off. Besides, this isn't a Bond film, Russia isn't the devil.

Russia doesn't care about PR. They learned long ago that the UN will tolerate pretty much anything (except farking with their illicit money supplies).

Russia has a lot to gain by controlling that area. The Russians have been trying to control natural gas for years. The break-away province just happens to be a major supplier of natural gas.

The current president of Georgia is very pro democracy and business. He did a complete housecleaning of their corrupt police department and now enjoys an approval rating that is the envy of every national leader who cares about public opinion.

The Russians are back to their old habit of killing anyone who disagrees with the official government stance. Journalists who report corruption have a nasty habit of coming down with a bad case of being dead.

So who do you want to believe? Two leaders of emerging democracies that are doing a pretty good job of it, or a corrupt regime with a very long history of corruption and assassination?

If you are lefty-wingnut, you'll go with the Russians because you are genetically programmed to go against all U.S. ally, no matter what. It probably has something to do with having your frontal lobe removed.

I meant send messages through unconfirmed actions;

Russia specifically...the Kremlin has used military force to coerce Georgia into having de facto independent regions in the first place, supported coups by 'rogue' russian military that happened to step in line with the Kremlin as soon as Georgia agreed to Russian military bases and being in the CIS, cyber-attacks, assassinations attempts on Eduard Shevardnaze.... Russia does it in Ukraine, the Baltics, Poland etc or their 'near-abroad' as they refer to it.

Are you implying Jackie shot JFK??? I sir, have to disagree with that assessment... I'm pretty sure the Zapruder tape would have shown Jackie holding a rifle to John's head.

LOL. Like all poliician, both Saakashvili and Kasinski deserve to hang from the nearest tree. our attempt to make these lying cowardly thugs on CIA/Soros payroll into heroes made me laugh out loud.

Bet you libtards regret electing a limp-wristed Jr. Senator from Illinois. Am I right, people?

What's "Hope" and "Rhetoric" gonna do for you, when the skies are glossed crimson from the onslaught of the godless-Red rain?

Don't worry. I'm sure Capt. John McCain is more than ready and willing to be re-deployed back to the Soviet front. Time to thaw out the cold-warriors.

Just sit back and relax, kiddies. The Old Guard is back to help beat back the Ruskies. You just worry about sustainable health-care or whatever else kinda cockamamie social programs you looney tunes are concocting.

hahaha. You must watch the US news, or have a pretty shiatty definition of a democracy. Might want to take a look at Georgia's human rights and press freedom record under Sakaashvili who, incidentally, was voted in with over 90% of the popular vote.

How many US backed leaders get those kind of numbers legitimately?

90% of the vote followed by human rights violations and press crackdowns? Doesn't sound like a "pretty good job". Sounds like another puppet.

Take a closer look at Georgia before you make them out to be your David to Russia's Goliath. They have a hell of a lot more support than you seem to understand.
