I liked No Doubt. I refer to it as "that period where Gwen Stefani was surrounded by competent musicians and was therefore tolerable."

That's bananas, bananas.

Yeah Gwen ... boy, that precocious personality and debatable hotness only goes so far without a decent tune to carry it, eh? Scott Weiland Syndrome. JESUS that guy sucks on his own.

I had a huge (well I'm told at least above average) infatuation with Gwen before she became Madonna.

She looks hot in the picture on the band's website.

That's pretty neat. They always made pretty fluffy pop music and she's got a great voice. I was listening to their version of "Oi! to the World" last night on YouTube and it was much better than the Vandals' version.

Given the nature of the band, though, it's probably going to "evolve" into whatever sound is currently popular and sound like shiat.

Me too. For a long time I considered her to be pretty much the ultimate woman.

Oh and kudos on the headline, submitter.

I like how the music video for "Don't Speak" purposefully mocked how the media liked to focus on Gwen instead of the band in its entirety and then she went solo to confirm that's how she likes it.

In popular pop bands like No Doubt the front man/woman is the public face of the band and if they're not going to do it any more there's not much of a point.

A few bands have managed to get around it, but her star power vastly outweighs the rest of the band.

/Likes No Doubt.

i actually really hope they do reunite. i never got to see them in concert and would love to - especially the songs from their first three cds. even though i just like her voice and sound, i really wish she hadn't gone solo in the first place. no doubt was way better than gwen could ever be alone.

for that matter, bush should reunite too, although i saw them a few years ago.

I saw them live with my younger brother, who was a total metal head. They put on a great show. My brother, who has seen just about all the metal acts of the 80s and 90's actually called it his favorite show of all time. I don't go that far, but they did put their all in to it.

No, the Black Eyed Peas carry that title. I seriously thought "My Humps" was a cervical cancer awareness commercial the first time I heard it, because I figured no band could possibly make something that terrible. When I realized it was an actual song by an actual band, I immediately bought an iPod and haven't listened to radio, since.

One of these made me lol:

"My Humps" has been the subject of severe criticism by the music press. John Bush, writing for Allmusic, described it as "one of the most embarrassing rap performances of the new millennium",[1] while Bill Lamb, writing for About.com, called it "the musical equivalent of a bad Farrelly Brothers movie".[2] Hua Hsu of Slate said, "It's not Awesomely Bad; it's Horrifically Bad. ... There are bad songs that offend our sensibilities but can still be enjoyed, and then there are the songs that are just really bad-transcendentally bad, objectively bad."

Although, I think I found these funnier:

Jason Damas, in a review for PopMatters, described the song as sounding "almost exactly like Dizzee Rascal", and added, "lyrically, this is where Gwen sinks the lowest here, especially on a breakdown where she repeats, 'This shiat is bananas/ B-A-N-A-N-A-S!' several times".[20] Eric Greenwood of Drawer B Media called the song "moronic and embarrassingly tuneless. I'd quote the lyrics, but they're so bad, I almost feel sorry for her. A 35-year-old woman singing about pom-poms and 'talking shiat' in high school betrays such a delusional self-image that it's hard not to be taken aback. And on top of that, The Neptunes' beats are clunky and the production is senselessly bombastic."[21] Nick Sylvester of Pitchfork also criticized the track, referring to it as a "Queen pastiche...which has about as much club potential as a 13-year old with a milk moustache and his dad's ID

I just don't like them. People were throwing trash all around, I saw a lemon, thought to myself, "I'll bet I can throw this to the stage" and almost hit her.

There's no reason for them to do this... I still remember the Super Bowl show where she tried to go back and do her early No Doubt music. She just couldn't handle it anymore.

She may want a reunion, but her ability to perform that music has passed her by.

Whoops... I got my crappy concerts mixed up. I was there to see Metallica, Pennywise and Blink 182 when I got stuck with No Doubt.

It was the year before I got stuck with Third Eye Blind... and Creed. The things I would sit through to see Green Day at 15.

Around 89-92 I got to boo No Doubt off the stage at the Aragon Brawlroom in Chicago.Think they opened for Special Beat. West coast 'ska' didn't go over well there...

Though I would throw courtesy fark into Gwen the true hilarity is her husband. Gavin Ross.

He was with a tranny for years, called Marilyn, and when you think about it. Gwen many times looks to pic perfect, like a tranny.

Please. They are the most soulless, unoriginal, trend-chasing hacks this side of Bush. The fact that some people think Gwen is hot, despite her manly shoulders, is the only reason they are still around.

NorCalLos 2008-11-25 04:18:13 PM
The last No Doub album or two sounded not unlike Gwen's "solo" music. They were no longer writing songs, but having "producers" come in and write them for them and using the No Doubt brand to market them.

Gwen is kinda hot now, but it's some combination of elective surgery and digital image manipulation. Check out the video for "Just A Girl." She's all moley and unattractive.

Thanks for the Gavin/tranny link. Can't wait to read it.

/Do you know how I know I'm gay?
