I've long harbored a desire for time travel. If for no other reason than to introduce "old" Metallica to "new" Metallica and watch the ensuing battle to the death. That being said, the new stuff is actually pretty good and after seeing them 11 times they never disappoint live.

The video bonus here is the crowd chanting "Die! Die! Die!" I remember a mom with her kids in front of me in like 1989 seeing these guys and her horror still makes me laugh.

I can't bring myself to listen to the new Metallica because of the whole suing their fans thing. Maybe someday I'll get over it.

I don't know why they're outraged. It's like a medieval, sadomasochistic thing. The masters punishing their slaves. I would think true fans would be willing to pay twice the price for a cd after that scourging. True metal devotion.

It's not the mere fact that they're outraged, but that they insist on beating the same dead horse over and over and over again. If you hate Metallica with the undying fury of a thousand burning suns, fine, more power to you. Listen to something else that makes you happy. But please, spare us the ranting and the whining and the long winded diatribes about how you'll never listen to another Metallica song again. No one cares.

Don't get me wrong, I'm in no way outraged and what I've heard of the new album is good. I just can't bring myself to listen to the whole thing. I seem to be holding a grudge but it certainly isn't because of the music. I figure it's just part of getting older, once you're pissed off you hold on to it for a while.

I remember seeing them in '86 (with Cliff!) on the Master of Puppets tour, they were opening for Ozzy. They did this tune, the middle "Die! Die! Die" section went on for a good 10 minutes. I thought it was pretty cool for the first 7 minutes, the last 3 were kind of tedious.

BTW, I'm the "because they're better!" guy in the Binge & Purge video. ;-)

Their religion, sexuality and music.
And for some reason metallica fans are the most persistent in defending their idols.

The only thing that pisses me off more than Metallica and what they did to their fans was how the Seahawks were denied a Super Bowl victory. I swear the refs were paid off just so Cowher could get a ring before he retired. There was no push off, no holding, it was a ll a set up. I used to be a huge Steelers fan, but not anymore.

/how am I doing?

I understand that these Sunday greenlights are 'Heavy Metal,' and I don't mind that, but can't we get some different stuff in here? I mean, come on, EVERYbody can talk about Metallica or Slayer or whatever, so why can't we see some more diverse stuff like Type O Negative or Mastodon? If you can't do it for yourself, then at least do it for us.

I'm still on boycott against them for probably the same reason. I won't listen to anything by them if I can avoid it, old or new. If I were alone in my car driving on a lonesome highway with one radio station, I would turn off the radio for five minutes if I had to. And I won't be clicking this link for the same reason.

Sepultura- Was a great thrash band until they went nu-metal

Lamb of God- More Hardcore than Metal.

Fear Factory- Grindcore

Pantera- More Grindcore than Metal.

ahhhh ... i'm gonna have to back satanicsantoku on this one. Fear Factory is NOT grindcore.

grindcore:

napalm death
discordance axis
agoraphobic nosebleed
circle of dead children

influenced? maybe. but not grindcore. Melt Banana has more in common with grindcore than Fear Factory. if i remember correctly, they eventually got all "mall-metally" and whatnot

I bet after that show Hetfield had to schedule an emergency group counseling session with the band and a team of therapists to discuss how hearing the crowd chant "Die" brought a negative energy cloud that sent them plummeting to their dark emotion cave that blocked their self empowerment force.

I think that was during the time when they were still true to their roots, drinking heavily and hadn't yet thought about seeing therapists. They were the opening band, not the headliners and Cliff was still alive so they hadn't "made it" yet.

Of the times that I've felt the most alive was with Metallica in concert during the breakdown of this song. To be one among a thousand moshers breaking circle and rank to shout "DIE!" in unison...it's an incredible feeling.

Actually, calling them trolls is more a cope out than anything. The vide one gets from reading the threads is that the defenders are the trolls, egging on the flamefilled rants of mindless 'metal fiends' who think they know the greatest band on earth.

Both of you are 'tards. Fear Factory is industrial metal (pretty much the godfathers of the genre). Their first album was death metal-ish but they evolved from there. Also, they were the first metal band that did the singing/screaming style and one of the few that could actually do it well.

Metallica really was incredible.. this performance is great.

But "die".."die"? I doubt they want to die. Anyone else find that repeating theme really lame?

Sabbath Bloody Sabbath anyone?

/The greatest heavy metal band of all time
// though I met the drummer for Blue Cheer, who were called heavy metal for the first time by a journalist.
/// I am an old metalhead who played some of the nastiest music this Earth has seen, and wears leather with an Iron Cross to this day.
//// Slashy extravaganza

I would second want to send props to Judas Priest. And Iron Maiden.

Both have some weirdness and odditties about them, but they never screwed their fans like Wetallica.

I even had to play Enter Sandman with a biker band to placate the nasty bastards that were our fans, but i hated the song. Hated. Then Wetallica went with the RIAA jerks who demanded our money for nothing, nothing. We had to pay hundreds of dollars for literally nothing just to get our CD out. WTF? And Wetallica actually LIKES these scumbags? Oh lovely.

Never trust a band that is a corporate stooge.

/I am so gonna be sued
