I just got Series 4 from Amazon the other day.

I started with Doctor 5 in 1983 on PBS. They then ran Doctor 4-5. They then went back and ran Doctor 3 (only color episodes). The second run of 3 included the black and white episodes too. Of Doctor 1 & 2, I only saw Unearthly Child and War Games. I saw random bits of Doctors 6 & 7, but I hated 6 and 7 got too cheesy even for my MST3K sensibilities (at least the few eps I saw). No love for Doctor 8 either... Eric Roberts as the Master? Seriously?

I love the new series. I wish Christopher Eccleston had gotten in a couple of years as the Doctor before David Tennant took over. Both are great Doctors for different reasons.

I ran through the first 3 DVD sets before the 4th series showed up. Blink was farking fantastic.

@EchoMike: Hey! That's Dr. Moon from Silence in the Library! Great actor

It's looking like the 11th Doctor will be Patterson Joseph (new window).

Logweasel:

I also heard that from a friend. Rumors of Colin Salmon were there before, but I believe only because he's black, and the rumors were strong that the new doctor would be as well. But Joseph's been a player on teh show before and they have a habit of bringing in old actors into new roles.

Wow! The Doctor meets a possible future incarnation in 1851. Along with Cybermen. Might as well call this The Eleventh Planet and be done with it. ;)

Yeah, I'm guessing it may be yet another Time Lord that's posing as the Doctor. Either the Monk or the Master, if rumors hold. :)

DrMcNinja: For someone who has always wanted to watch Doctor Who but never has, what would you Farkers recommend starting with?

Honestly, the new series. If you like that you might want to start with the classic ones.

If were talking classic series I would recomend, Ark In Space/Sontaran Experiment/Genesis of the Daleks in that order. If you like what you see, then come back for some more suggestions.

ravenlore: If you're implying a Master Seven then I truly will cry.

Actually, no. It appears to be a normal (flat-head, I think) screwdriver. Not sonic (nor laser).

Guntram Shatterhand: Yeah, I'm guessing it may be yet another Time Lord that's posing as the Doctor. Either the Monk or the Master, if rumors hold. :)

I think he's just a fake, not a Timelord at all.

And I think the Monk will be appearing next year during one of the specials, not during this year's Christmas special.

/still think it's a shame the Beeb didn't do anything special for the anniversary, like the rumored "The 7 Doctors" special during the Children in Need event...
//they sure better pull out all the stops in 2013!!

Oh yeah, Patrick Stewart is scheduled to play the Monk. Who knows, it may be him. Still, the guy playing 'The New Doctor' does seem like a good replacement (just saying!).

And I can see why 'The Seven Doctors' may be delayed. If Tennant was staying, then it would be okay but since this is the final season for both him and Davies, I'm guessing they're doing what they want to do since it's an short season. Not like they can't come back, anyway. ;)

Dwight_Yeast: It's the fat git from Blackpool is what it is.

It's a secret remake of The Nightmare Fair??

Did anyone see Christopher Eccelston parodying "Doctor Who" on "The Sarah Silverman Program" this week? It was weird.

If you haven't seen anything of the show before start with the new series, it serves as a great introduction.

DrMcNinja: For someone who has always wanted to watch Doctor Who but never has, what would you Farkers recommend starting with?

I'd recommend The Robots of Death - it's well-written, funny, and has great set design, which you don't see too often in the old series.

Others:
City of Death
Invasion of the Dinosaurs
Inferno (it's really long though)
The Caves of Androzani

The new series has its great moments (watch Blink, you won't regret it), and certainly more of a budget, but it gets bogged down in sentimentality too much for my taste.

I watch her show out of boredom sometimes, I was shocked to see Eccleston show up.

For those that didn't see it, here's a 3 minute round-up (pops)

A couple of other recommendations to go with 19Cranes's list:

o The Talons of Weng-Chiang
o Pyramids of Mars

I'd also recommend watching the new series. I like the old stuff, but think the new series is very good too. I'd just get entire series box sets, but if you'd rather pick and choose then here's a few to consider:

o Dalek
o The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances
o Blink
o The Girl in the Fireplace
o Human Nature/The Family of Blood

Many fans consider the Philip Hinchcliffe era (Tom Baker's first three years, 1974-77/8) to be Doctor Who's golden era, when everything came together. Great stories, superb acting and production, and the iconic duo of the Fourth Doctor and Sarah. Start there.

Peter Davidson is, was and always will be my favorite Doctor. It's kind of like you're kindergarten teacher, everyone falls in love with them a little bit.

That being said, David Tennant is also fantastic and I am sorry to see him leave.

Amen to that-I'd been watching for a while before PBS started cycling through the Davison years, and he was (until Tennant) my fave Doctor. I was so pleased to see that bit the two of them filmed together before the Christmas episode!

ZeroCorpse [recently expired TotalFark] 2008-11-24 01:07:39 PM
I'm still holding out for an appearance by The Rani. The potential for a great British actress to ham it up in the role is too great to ignore.

I'll miss Tennant. He's been a fantastic Doctor, but I'm willing to give the next Doctor a go, because the best part of the whole regeneration thing is that the show can slightly re-invent itself. Each Doctor can bring a new style to the character, which makes stories remain somewhat fresh.

I'd still like to see an OFFICIAL female Doctor some time. Lumley doesn't count.

I always hold out hope that they'll give us some closure or continuation of Ace's story. What happened to her? Did she go to the academy on Gallifrey and become a Time Lord, as was originally intended? (and subsequently die in the Time War?) Did she become a Time Agent like Jack? Did she die? Did she go back to have crazy sex with Sabalom Glitz again? Where the fark is Dorothy?!?!

If they can drag Sarah Jane back, then surely they can tell us what happened to Ace!!!

However, I don't care what happened to Mel. I'm betting Glitz sold her into slavery on some far-off planet.
