He said the internet is more liberal than conservative, and it is. So is pretty much anything that is based on the open exchange of information and ideas.

Actually, if the Internet actually is liberal, then, as it is representative of everyone, that means that the average person actually is a liberal, and that reality does have a liberal bias.

Free Republic makes libs look sane and sedate. I guess, in that sense, it is biased for libs.

Internet has a well-known liberal bias?
Actually, for once, O'Reilly is making sense:
People Too Stupid To Use A Computer are poorly represented on the internet, and Conservatives* are overrepresented among this demographic.

* "Conservatives" used here to here mean O'Reilly-watching fundamentalist retards. I don't wish to insult genuine thoughtful conservatives.

And I hope Rush gets caught in a raid on a whorehouse with underaged boys in DR.

It is true, facts and truth are definitely liberally biased.

They don't just 'moderate' comments, they have a group of self appointed commisars who go over those threads with a fine toothed comb looking for any hint of dissident political viewpoints. And if they find someone who says something that's not in line with the party, then they nuke those comments into orbit (along with the guy who posted the offending commentary).

To this day I have no idea why I was banninated from FreeRepublic. I heavily restrained myself over there, and I went to great lengths to make sure I used no offensive language. I just spoke what was on my mind and made EXTREME efforts to be polite about it.

2 days later - banned for being a troll. This was after I mentioned that the teaching of Christ weren't supportive of places like Gitmo, or our 'war on terror' tactics in general. Apparently Jesue DOES like waterboarding and isn't fond of my comments to the contrary.

The internet is far more libertarian than anything else. It's telling that O'Reilly would look at something that is majority fiscal conservatives and call it "liberal". Come to think of it, that's what screwed the Republicans in the last two elections.

Because part of the fundamental principles espoused by Fox News, Talk Radio, etc... is to be the sole voice of reason. Any dissenting opinion would spoil their propaganda because it might get people to look into things.

Look at all the Faux outrage about the gay marriage "riots" on Fox news this week. "Prop 8 supporters beating up Christians in the name of buttsex. Gay marriage supporters will resort to nazism to impose their will on the majority."

Fiscal conservatives are a majority at Freepville? All I see there is your garden variety fundietard bible bangers and the "lets kill all the liberals and MOOSELIMBS for freedom" pansies.

"Fiscal conservatives" are an insignificant minority in the Republican party and have been for decades.

Or fewer liberal voices since there doesn't seem to be an outpouring of conservative voices. And what do we consider conservative vs liberal? Will every topic need to have a rebuttal? I'm fiscally conservative and socially liberal. Will there be other views aside from the two parties included?

Rhetorical questions mostly. I already know the answers.

DeaH 2008-11-22 04:49:58 PM
Free Republic is biased toward liberalism in one respect: it makes the Right look like a bunch of foaming-at-the-mouth nutters. This tends to be good for the liberal cause. In much the same way, NAMBLA is not good for gay rights, but is a huge boon to the Right.

GAT_00: Actually, if the Internet actually is liberal, then, as it is representative of everyone, that means that the average person actually is a liberal, and that reality does have a liberal bias.

This is possibly true, but perhaps it's because the conservatives have narrowly defined themselves so that very few people fit into their category.

For instance, I am currently living in Australia these days and the "Conservatives" (Called, Liberals of all things, lol) where a relatively prosperous, populist party that sucked too much business owner/investor cock over the last 11 years and hence, now they are scrambling to find decent leadership in the wake of them being decimated at the polls last year.

Of course, in America the stupid GOP base seems to think that the reason why they lost is that they weren't far enough to the right, which of course is only going to further marginalize them as they discover that the vast majority of American's don't have the stomach for far right ideology.

Honestly, I don't understand how they come to this conclusion since the fellow they lost to is just barely left of center, but there you have it, no one has ever accused these guys of being smart - dirty and underhanded race/queer baiters - yes, smart? Not so much.

asmodeus224 2008-11-22 05:22:53 PM
The internet is more liberal because when you can actually verify assertations of conservative wingnuts and find out they are lying sacks of shiat it tends to undermine their arguments...ask John McCain

GAT_00: Actually, if the Internet actually is liberal, then, as it is representative of everyone, that means that the average person actually is a liberal, and that reality does have a liberal bias.

Hardly representative of everyone. Grade some high school papers, and you'll come to realize that internet forum members, even the most brainless of the bunch, virtually all come from the three-digit-IQ side of the bell curve. Scary but true.

asmodeus224: The internet is more liberal because when you can actually verify assertations of conservative wingnuts and find out they are lying sacks of shiat it tends to undermine their arguments...ask John McCain

BINGO!

It's quite hard to keep a consolidation with wildly different interests and needs when the facts are at hand. The Republican Party simply doesn't know how much trouble it is in. If they were able to mobilize the base with something, chances are the fear of dissent that Republicans have will cut them off at the knees. It's going to take a miracle for the rich portion of the party to rein in the crazy fundie part, and even then they might not even bother.

This is the second time a headline involving something Bill-O said made my brain lock up. I literally just stare at the screen in disbelief.

The first time this had happened he had said something like, "if gay parenting is natural/okay, why can't eating cupcakes make you pregnant?" Paraphrased, ofcourse.

Yesdog [TotalFark] 2008-11-22 05:42:57 PM
Again, we need to define the terms "liberal" and "conservative". Because, I swear, based on the way O'Reilly describes the issues, anything that is intelligent, reasonable and NOT mired in greed, fear and bigotry is deemed "liberal".

*ahem*

So, if O'Reilly says that the media, as well as the internet, is so far-flung over to a liberal bias, then why isn't he a supporter of the fairness doctrine?

It would skew things to the right by his logic. I'm sure he has proof of this overall bias to back it up.
