It's always been my second favorite album(s) of all time...just behind Sabbath's Vol. 4.

Cool! My fave album ever, ranking just above the Blade Runner Soundtrack.

Happiness is a Warm Gun FTW.

Sexy Sadie is pretty acidic too.

Now I bet that makes a lot of people feel old. Very old.

The the three people who said it was among their favorites:

I have a feeling you are among a very small number of music fans
who still listen to it.

NOT a hater. I just think they are over-rated. The early stuff is strictly pop, excellent pop, but still pop.

When did they every really rock? Like the Allmans or the Yardbirds
or the Stones?

The answer is 'never'.

Wrong. The answer is:

Revolution.

The single version, of course. Not the slowed down, crappy one from the White Album.

I like the album, but do feel it is underrated. Revolver, Help!, Rubber Soul, Abbey Rd and Sgt Peppers are all better, as is even the LP version of Magical Mystery Tour.

But that's like saying having a billion dollars is better than having half a billion - it'll still be pretty sweet having half a billion dollars.

One of the best albums of all time, even if it's basically a solo LP for John, Paul, and George (and even Ringo).

Pull your head out of your ass. They were well rounded musicians, not one trick ponies. They rocked plenty, even in the beginning when they were doing a lot of pop. Their pop just gets a lot more play. If they could have gotten over their differences in the late sixties and kept on as a group, there is no telling what kind of music they would have created together. But to say they didn't rock is pretty ignorant. Jimmy Hendrix liked Sgt. Pepper so much he learned it and performed it within days of it being released. If you don't think they had any rock songs, you should go back and listen again.

You are propping up a false choice.

The Beatles were creating new things in rock that never existed before them. When the Beatles started, there were no distorted guitars, wailing leads, etc. The Allmans and the Yardbirds benefited from what the Beatles did. Hell, everyone - even artists to this very day - have benefited from what the Beatles did.

You have to have a very narrow mind to think the Beatles were on the same playing field as anyone else.

If Revolver and Rubber Soul had been released as a double album, there would be zero question about what was the Beatles' best album. :)

I like the White album, but I skip a good number of tracks when I listen to it.

But I play Savoy Truffle and Me and My Monkey repeatedly to make up for it.

THIS.

It's not that the Beatles are bad. They've got some good tunes. They're just not as good as everyone seems to think they are. I don't mind the White album. But the uncontested praise this band gets is ridiculous.

We're almost there. Two down, two to go.

It's not my fav. Beatles album...
but it does have a bunch of great songs on it.
A few are kinda weak or out of place, tho...
I think it would've been a FREAKIN FANTASTIC single album if they just trimmed it a little.....ok.. a LOT lol.
I'm just a little tired of it, that's all.
Maybe cuz the classic rock radiotracks from it are played a lot on the radio... overexposed?? i dunno...
maybe i listened to it too much in a short period of time...

but..... anyway...
I think it started off the whole "jumbled together bunch of songs, in many different styles double album"...

Abso-farking-lutely. That version has been known to set turntables on fire. Add to it some of John's better lyrics and you have a song that should be near the top of any list of great rock(*) tunes.

(*) Cub Koda noted that anyone who doesn't understand the difference between "rock" and "rock and roll" should be taken out and shot.

So I'm in high school, lying on my bed listening to the White Album, which is relatively new. I've even taken the four photos from the inside and stapled them up to my wall, and I have the black light on.

I glance over, and one of the photos must have fallen down. Only three are lit up. I get up and go check. The three that are glowing - and the fourth one - are still all attached to the wall.

Paul's doesn't glow. On further inspection, it's a non-shiny photo paper, where the others are a shiny paper.

I still have them. Pulled them out of the cabinet last week as I was doing some moving. Put them in a zip loc baggie and I think I'll take them out and get them framed.

I think if you look at this band on the continuum of popular music and rock music, it is impossible to write them off as you just did.

Melodies. Chord structure. Lyrics. Production. Musicianship. Publishing. Business dealings. Spiritual exploration.

All of these things within popular music were completely changed by the existence of the Beatles. They are exactly as astounding as their apologists claim.

OOOOOOOOOOOOH! I got people MAD AT ME!

For voicing an OPINON!

You folks are STILL wrong, the Beatles never rocked.

And wishing they were a rock band won't make them one.

The proof is in the records; maybe you should go back and LISTEN
to them.

By the way Obama is an empty suit, too.

Some are of the opinion that they did rock. Who are you to decide that they didn't?
I don't think you made anyone angry here. You just took their opinions for anger, and as a result became very testy yourself.

The Beach Boys were pop. Hell, The Ramones were pop. One can be pop and still rock.

Just because some boybands used it, it doesn't make pop a dirty word.

I have to agree with those who expressed that the so-called 'White Album' would have had more power as a single disc(k!).

Prune it down to tracks like Happiness..., I'm So Tired, Prudence, et al - and you have non-stop brilliance. It's a shame that Rev. 9, Buffalo, etc really sucked the wind out of the continuity.

That said, call me when it's the 40th anniversary of "Abbey Road." That's the best farking album ever made, in any genre. No matter where my musical tastes take me, or for how long, I always come back to Abbey and think, "Goddamn this is a brilliant farking album."

Also, I would like to co-op the final, crashing chord from "A Day in the Life" as the theme music that plays every time I drop trou.

Just thinking about the White Album makes my head hurt. I just could never get into it. The main reason people say they love the Beatles never sat well with me; that they invented so many styles. I don't really argue that point, but I think a lot of other bands did those styles much much better than the Beatles ever did. For example, I would much rather listen to Pink Floyd or the 13th Floor Elevators for psychedelic rock, or the Stones or the Who for British Invasion. Don't get me wrong, there are a good deal of Beatles songs which I like, but I only really enjoy the Beatles in a historic context.

I wonder how long I'll hang onto it. Wonder what it's worth...
