Unfortunately, she's a total nutcase.

As in, completely batshiat insane. She actually believes David Byrne is responsible for numerous murders, as well as mindcontrol.

I mean, I could see a few murders, and maybe a little mind control here or there. But sheesh...

No mention of her "other" side project: Gorillaz? Odd.

Byrne is nuttier... come on David, just do a few festival shows with the Heads. Don't be like Joe Strummer and wait to long.

Yeah...I have heard that a number of times.

I recall once in the 80s MTV attempted to interview her and she couldn't answer the most simple or basic question without babbling like a lunatic. Her responses were totally un-funny and non sequitur. It wasn't as if she was trying to be ironic and off the point like how some rock stars deliberately do during interviews to be funny. She really appeared as a genuine basket case.

Where'd you read or hear that? Sounds like an interesting interview.

Incidentally, if there are any beer geeks out there, this issue spilled over into the Beer Advocate forums, where Garrett Oliver & Sam both chime in

Do you mean Chris Franz? Maybe he's also responsible for Tina's crazy, since they are married.

In all fairness, subby, Mariah Carey couldn't operate a sampler if her life depended on it.

Well, where's a link? Pretty harsh thing to say about someone without a source. I just googled "tina weymouth on david byrne" and the worst thing I found that she said about him is he is incapable of returning friendship. I call bullshiat.

Here's the link:

(You might have to click through an ad)

And here's a small excerpt, among others:

While we were at lunch, Weymouth announced that she had heard David Byrne was a murderer. And she wasn't talking about his song that goes "Psycho killer, q'est-ce que c'est?" No. She heard at a party that Byrne had killed a boy in Brazil using voodoo. She wanted us to play Hardy Boys and solve the case. "David is a vampire, in a way," she told me. "Watch out for the autism. It might be something much more complex. Psychics have seen him and they say he just has a firewall around him."

Let's also hear it for Nov. 22 birthday people Jason Ringenberg, Jamie Lee Curtis, Scarlett Johansson, the late Rodney Dangerfield, Mariel Hemingway, and me. Born the day JFK was shot. Yep, I'm old.

Yow. Thanks for the link. Good read. Crazy lady.

Happy birthday, crazy bass lady.

I saw Tom Tom Club play Aquafest in Austin in the early 90's. They were surprisingly good live. The three female singers done up as belly dancers didn't hurt either.

Awesome song and awesome video. Definitely doesn't look like something from 81. And the song is catchy as hell.

David Byrne once sang Old MacDonald Had a Farm to my ex wife when she was a little girl and wandered backstage away from her dad.

I met and spoke with Tina after a Tom Tom Club show in 2001 and she certainly wasn't 'batshiat crazy' or 'insane' - certainly no crazier than most of the weirdos I have to deal with in this business on a daily basis (yeah, Maynard the Tool, I'm talking about you). She was very gracious and the only thing she had to say about David Byrne was that she wished he would change his mind about a TH reunion. She also put on an amazing show and her husband, Chris, is a great drummer and very nice guy, as well.

If you don't have any other evidence of this than an 80's MTV interview (lots of coke, anyone?) then I suggest you refrain from slandering people you don't know.

Really?! I Want to believe, but... most all of the drumming in TH sucks. What am I missing?

I can relate. I have a thing for female bass players myself.

Aimee Mann (Til Tuesday) and Sandy Horne (Spoons) were my weaknesses in the 80s. I love female bassists too.
