bronyaur1: Nor will we care.

All comments should be resembling this. Care is in short supply when it comes to Gn'R.

tis actually been getting decent reviews... with the general "not worth 14 years" disclaimer.

the title song does sound dated already. that early 00's compressed metal sound; Exhibit A: Limp Bizkit.

wonder when it was recorded. i like the double tracking of Axl's voice but musically, it's like, "mleh. another anonymous metal sound."

All I know is that Sunday is FREE DR. PEPPER DAY!

puckhead 2008-11-20 03:30:45 PM
I just finished listening to it - free of course (pops).

yes, Axl, we get it. you can scream.
Only one tune got my attention enough to play it twice (I think it was "This I Love").
on the whole, it was very underwhelming

Someone in the record industry is sorely mistaken. Apparently, they think they can employ the Eric Cartman "No, you can't enter my go**amn amusement park" marketing strategy to make people want the product even more.

Sorry, we haven't given a crap about that album since 1994, and we still don't.

puckhead 2008-11-20 03:33:23 PM
it also seems telling from the myspace 'plays' stats (from my link above) that only about 20% of the people who started the playlist actually stayed to listen to all to the songs.

JeffTL 2008-11-20 03:37:11 PM
Axl managed to get it done before free elections in Beijing, so I have to hand it to him.

/Obligatory

i still say it sounds like Staic-X knock... who were johnny-come-lately Ministry knock-offs... so the album sounds like 1994, only 14 years later.

Is it really a saga if it bores everyone who hears about it?

StvyRayVhn1 2008-11-20 04:16:26 PM
I think "Sorry" is a pretty damn good song.

And so what if something sounds a bit dated? I wouldn't knock Led Zeppelin if they came out with an album that sounded anything like albums I-IV.

busy chillin' 2008-11-20 04:27:55 PM
I will prolly buy it just for the fact that it has been such a long drawn out fiasco.

Been listening to the promo for a few weeks. Overall pretty good album with about half the songs being really good imo. But I'm biased being a fan of music.

NorCalLos 2008-11-20 04:54:30 PM
"Better" has really well-written verse melody line. Everything about that song is pretty cool to me. Everything else I've heard sounds kinda lame. Axl's voice sounds like crap on a lot of the stuff, which I think is a result of poor production or lack of someone saying, "dude, that take was good, but I think it'd be way cooler if you used a different approach..."

danduran 2008-11-20 05:12:33 PM
I'm impressed that despite the album being out on CD tomorrow, I haven't read about any leaks (of the final product).

I'm sure I'm not the only one who's had the date circled on their calendar. will be the first one in line sunday morning to get the CD.

is the final 14 tracks. a friend just downloaded it after viewing this thread. HE was very unimpressed. and HE also thought that it sounded like a comedy parody every time axl's voice came on. I guess thats what happens when your "unique" voice is so easy to imitate. people play it out before you get a chance too.

The idea of an album being planned before any real recordings or songs were written is stupid to me.

The fact that they claimed this was in the works 14 years ago should be evident that this release and that "planned" album are not remotely the same thing.

But who cares anyway... whatever it would have been 14 years ago, it would have sucked... probably even more than what we got.

It's been fourteen years of silence, it's been fourteen years of pain.
It's been fourteen years that are gone forever and I'll never have again!

/the album lacks Izzy

If this album wasn't released under the GNR name every person who liked Guns N Roses, mark my words, would have loved this album.

This is a pretty great album for all the shiat being released today. It's like the Use Your Illusions but i can listen to it straight through (minus maybe 2 songs) without skipping the songs.. UYI had better "hit" material but as a whole was shiattier. This is a really good album...

A lot of reviews say the same thing, if it wasn't called GNR it would get even better reviews.

say what? it seems to be getting pretty uniformly good reviews, but from a lot of places I wouldn't hold in very high regard. If this album was released under any other name, people would've been like "fark... Static-X have another album? God damn..."

These songs farkin sucked. It was all over the place and not in a good way. This is not G&R.....this ia Axl's solo album as it should be.

seabass242 2008-11-21 06:36:26 AM
I like the album. Much better than I expected. It sounds like "Axl" version of Guns and Roses (which is exactly what it is).

IMHO Izzy and Axl are what made the band great. They are both good songwriters.

3 1/2 out of 5 stars.

I have to agree. Some of it is embarassingly bad, some of it fantastic. The problem is, that's often in the same song.

Can't help thinking that overall it sucks. Maybe.

There's no Welcome to the Jungle, Patience, Sweet Child of Mine, Paradise City, Civil War, You could be mine type iconic music on this album, there is some amazing Slash impersonation though. And some great, great guitar playing.

A little unsure so far.

Listening to it now, I can't believe it's actually out. It's a lot better than it ought to be... and perhaps wisely he's not rehashing the old sound - it actually sounds very 'now', beats and production included (for better or worse).

whidbey [TotalFark] 2008-11-21 03:59:29 PM
It's a complete waste of time and talent.

He could have had five solo records out instead of dragging that rotten turkey around...

And I'm being kind.

Jedekai 2008-11-21 06:50:36 PM
I liked it. But for that long of a wait I was expecting something along the lines of "Brave New World" Iron Maiden FARKING GREAT! (that one took 4 years and change)... Not "Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned" Prodigy "great" (Which took 5 years and change).

HST's Dead Carcass 2008-11-21 11:15:30 PM
In terms of recent releases, Death Magnetic, um, yeah, going with a recent naming of their albums, and after hearing it at a friends house, we'll call it Download. It had to be great, it was merely ok. I want that fan version I heard about where someone stripped away all the 2 minute intros that have nothing to do with the songs. That's the only version of Death Magnetic I want, truthfully.

Chinese Democracy, though, it should have sucked, but, it's pretty damn awesome. I really wanted to hate this album, and use it as fodder to tear down Axl, joining an endless stream of bandwagoners ripping it, but fark me, it's a really great album! Buckethead's influence is all over this album, or I have sorely underestimated Bumblefoots fret prowess.

Damn it! I hate getting old. It used to be so much easier to be judgmental in my youth.

/gonna go tell the neighbor kids to get off my lawn

It's the worst album I've heard since St. Anger. I literally thought it was a joke. Axl, 2001 called - It wants it's industrial sound back...

kingflower 2008-11-23 12:03:49 AM
Sounds like someone polished a turd for 14 years.....

Does not sound like GNR....

Would actually be better without Axl screeching over the music.
