And yes, students have tried saying things like that. I show them server logs, no logins with their username for *weeks* - "Someone hacked me!".

My fave is the brother & sister who accessed the exam at the same time from the same IP... and were on dialup w/ no router, etc. between them and the world. "No, we weren't taking the exam together!"

I remember looking at my firewall's block logs and looked up the IP of some of the offending probes. All Russian.
