Exactly. And that's what the band will say, and this won't happen.

I'd wager mad cheddar on it.

They should let Tina Fey take over Conan's seat after NBC cancels 30 Rock. Jimmy Fallon is less funny than cancer and a room full of Dane Cook's.

/loves 30 Rock

Fark It: They should let Tina Fey take over Conan's seat

Fey can't hold Conan's nut sack. And if she could I don't think I would want to see her worn out "lovable loser" act holding anyone's nut sack. Oh yeah, Fallon sucks nut sacks.

Wait, wait, wait. Jimmy farking Fallon is taking over for Conan?

What. The. Fark.

I barely even know who The Roots are, and I can state for the record that they are too good for Fallon's house band. Hell, Captain and farking Tennille would be too good for Fallon.

Should have given the show to Tracy Morgan.

I would normally agree with you but they were just here in Tempe. The band the OPENED for you ask? Fall Out Boy.

/Now I don't know what I can believe in anymore.

Well that's one thing about the show that won't make me beg for death that never comes. One thing.

The Roots concert I saw was sick.. Their medley at the end of their sets is awesome.

They also smoke quite awesome trees i must say

Man, I am so pumped for Jimmy Fallon's show! I don't know if I can wait. Who's with me???

If that were to ever go down, though, here's how I think it would go:

First, they hold out for serious money because they're the motherfarking Roots.
Second, they get the offer they're looking for.
Third, they have a band meeting where they realize that they are more popular than Jimmy Fallon, and that if they do accept the gig, the show's producers won't be able to afford good writing.
Then, they accept the offer.
Show goes up, gets cancelled, Jimmy Fallon eventually lands another gig because he's Jimmy Fallon and the Roots leave with lots of money in their pockets and a bunch of publicity.

Or Jimmy and the Roots put on a solid show, eventually making geeks on internet message boards admit they were wrong, and have a steady job for the next decade.

In all likelihood, though.... let's be serious.

jimb213 2008-11-18 01:26:58 AM
why is this sad? A great band that deserves lots of respect and exposure gets a (probably) high-paying gig that will get them new exposure, and potentially respect (yeah, I know that last one is a bit of a stretch). I would love to have a regular, high-paying, high-exposure gig like that.

theurge14 2008-11-18 02:53:14 AM
Jimmy Fallon? His own talk show? Well I guess that makes sense since he stunk it up on SNL for years. Wait, does this mean he's going to break character and laugh at the camera on his own show? Isn't that a bit weird? Will he interview himself too?

Jimmy Fallon will most likely fail quickly . . . and I sort of hope he does, but everyone thought Conan would fail quickly too, and thankfully he didn't.

Granted, Fallon is a vestige of a terribly idiotic period of comedy from whence the only good that emerged was Will Ferrell, while at the point of the transition from Letterman, Conan was an unrewarded comedic genius. Maybe Lorne Michaels knows something we don't about Fallon (though I'm not betting on it).

BRENDAN-FACE 2008-11-18 11:43:42 AM
Oh, also, the Roots were a fantastic live act. This blows.

Ass Machine Jones 2008-11-18 02:06:01 PM
Fallon will fail, I just hope he doesn't bring The Roots Crew down with him. Who would want to watch some mumbling egotistical jackass laugh at all his own jokes before he's finished telling them...

Doesn't Carson Daly still have a show? As untalented and unfunny as Fallon is, if somebody like Daly can still have a late night show after 7-8 years, then odds are quite low that Fallon will be canceled.

It's all about the time slot, being on NBC, and being on right after Conan. NBC could show a blue screen for an hour and still get a 10 share.

Even if it does happen, not gonna last. The talk show gig will be too restrictive for them and they'd wanna bail. Remember when Branford Marsalis' group was Leno's house band?

The Roots are overrated. When the thing that separates you from your peers is that you actually play instruments, the bar is depressingly low.

Actually, when trick-ass marks like you don't like em, that's the sign of a good band. You mark ass trick, you skip-skap-scaliwag!

Wow-That is some very gangsta slang. I didn't know you guys got down like that up there in Spokane. What wannabe thug album did you steal your street lingo from?

I hate that shtick. They used to do it on the Carol Burnett show all the time, too. It's like "Ooh look, audience, this is just soooo funny I have to laugh! Can you blame me? See, you are laughing too! We are in on this joke together! Isn't this fun?"

Annoying.
