I just had the urge to buy from people who ONLY use the secular language. If there is a war on Christmas, it's because of stupid bullshiat like this.

Stinky McButt 2008-11-16 02:29:52 PM
Focus on the American Family Research Parents Television Council. They're all the same, and I've never met anybody who consults them when doing anything. I've always wondered where the hundreds of millions of members these groups boast of actually live.

Way to continue to be divisive and demanding of special attention FOTF. You make America bitter and angry. Keep it up.

Stinky McButt: I've always wondered where the hundreds of millions of members these groups boast of actually live.

Trailer parks and cheap development housing. (seriously).

I think it's funny how they're not concerned about which retailers treat their employees well, they're not concerned about which retailers purchase products made by Chinese slave labour, they're not concerned about which retailers have good health care plans, they're not concerned about which retailers give to charities etc etc. It's like ensuring care for the sick, looking after the planet's lowest most-downtrodden people and caring for your neighbour aren't really any important part of their church's mission. What's their mission? Language police, apparently.

Matthew 6:5

This would make a good commercial.

It must be nice to be able to evaluate a chain's moral and ethical compass based on whether a certain word is in their advertising.

Eliminates the need to check up on things like labor conditions, product origins, employee safety, benefits policies, and any of that tedious stuff.

drnugget [TotalFark] 2008-11-16 03:20:08 PM
doing the opposite of what they suggest always works out well.

Chariset [TotalFark] 2008-11-16 03:23:35 PM
It's so odd, though. When the Reformed Church went after the public treatment of Christmas, they said "Get rid of all these extraneous trappings like lights, decorations, and gifts. You're distracting from the holiness of the day." Now you get the neo-fundamentalists saying "How dare you imply that these lights, decorations, and gifts have any purpose except to honor the birth of our Lord?!" They've taken in and made essential to Christmas what the Pilgrims, for example, would have seen as superfluous if not dangerous to real worship.

Thanks; I was curious, but I don't want to give them anything that could be mistaken as positive attention. People who use religion as an excuse to whip themselves up in a frenzy of self-righteous outrage over trifles while ignoring real problems are the worst kinds of attention whores.

NeverDrunk23 2008-11-16 03:44:44 PM
Oh for the love of crap. Shut up. Then don't freaking shop there.

That said, I always felt that calling a Christmas Tree a Holiday Tree was pretty stupid. Not 'I'm SO offended' or 'I'm going to protest!' but just really stupid.

Lionel Mandrake [TotalFark] 2008-11-16 03:51:03 PM

Director of issues response? Is that anything like Chief of whiny twats?

clueyee [TotalFark] 2008-11-16 03:58:28 PM
These idiots would probably bomb my house for pointing out that Christmas has pagan origins and was celebrated long before Jesus Christ was ever heard of or incorporated onto pagan rituals and customs. I am sure many would critisize that but history is the proof.

/ah well. Let the bombing begin!

Exactly. If a company is fronting as Christian by keeping the use of the word Christmas then they must be a good company. They must. Bullshiat.

Focus on the Family promoting shopping during the four weeks of Advent will soon announce a Steak on Friday special for Lent since apparently Catholics-Anglicans-Lutherans aren't really Christians and have no business in Republican religion anyway.

I just don't know that many IQ-intelligent people who I would consider to be 'religious nuts.' I know a very large number of people that I would affectionately refer to as 'inbred' that would just as soon thump you with a bible for even saying that as they would thump their personal preaching pulpit while spreading gospel to the masses.

Are there religious smart people? Yep.
Are there agnostic or atheistic dumbasses? Yep.

I think, however, that the numbers are still significantly skewed to one side on the subject.

Somehow I missed the part where celebrating the birth of Christ officially involves shopping at stores who exploit religious traditions for personal financial gain.

bobbette: "Christmas-friendly" retailers - prominent acknowledgment of "Christmas"

There's "Christmas Friendly", then there's "Having Christmas shoved down your throat", like at some stores.

It's not even Thanksgiving and some stores already have Christmas music playing on the PA and have all their Christmas crap out for sale.

Retailers, I know Christmas is coming up. I don't need you to remind me.

Being terminally offended gets exhausting after a while. People either devolve into full blown crazy or they fade away from these movements eventually. Since it is completely made up false victimhood that keeps these groups going rather than actually being downtrodden or some sort of marginalized minority it can't be perpetuated forever.

Does Christmas really need to be in full swing for 40 days?

War on Christmas? I think we should declare a war on Christmas.
After all, it just invaded November. Quick, somebody get Neville Chamberlain to have a sit down with Santa.

Samsaran: So, this is the next stage in the war? First eliminate religious references from STATE displays, then from PUBLIC displays and finally PRIVATE displays?

In America, they came first for the crosses, And I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Christian;

And then they came for the Santa Clauses, And I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Capitalist;

And then they came for the presents, And I didn't speak up because I was a Jew;

And then . . . they came for my cookies . . . And by that time there was no milk left to drink up.
