"There have been all sorts of cyborgs in science fiction for a long time, and I'm sort of a sci-fi geek," said Vlach, 35. "With the advancement of technology, I thought, 'Why not?'"

Well for starters, every single person you interact with might have to sign a waiver before you can use their image for profit publically on your web site.

Unlike google driving around on the street, there really still are some expectations of privacy indoors or away from public events.

Seems like she'd be able to work around it though.

"Tanya Vlach, who lost an eye in a 2005 car accident, thinks installin a Web cam into her prosthesis would be quite a sight."

Another case of writing how the author speaks.

Seems like a hassle when you can just put on a covert camera hat ^

Is it just me, our have our standards with respect to who we call "artists" declined in recent years?

It's not "art", it's a gimmick.

"the camera, which would be encased in Vlach's prosthesis to avoid moisture, could link wirelessly to a smart phone. "

With all the talk (unproven one way or the other) of cellphone radiation screwing your cells from being next to your skull....do you really want such a source inside your actual skull?

/not being a luddite...just askin'

Meresa 2008-11-16 10:29:51 AM
It's been done, in fiction at least.

Watch the pre-title sequence of Gerry Anderson's "Doppelgänger" (aka "Journey to the Far side of the Sun"). An espionage agent has a miniature camera hidden inside of his glass eye.

Will she be allowed to enter cinemas/theaters/concerts with that thing? Or will they go like "Lady, I'll have to ask you to remove your eye"? Just wonderin'...

"I think the term "artist" is thrown around too liberally these days.."

this...

from her "project"

"Colibrita Productions is a multidisciplinary think tank introducing new concepts and models to merge different art mediums. Colibrita chooses to defy categories, definitions, and boxes. Colibrita is a small movement aimed to provoke dialogue from varying points of view in a cultural spectrum through public art, media, exhibitions, zines, performances, etc."

As a working artist and educator I can say this:

Get a job, ma'am.

Van Goh was never recognized as an artist in his lifetime. The impressionists also struggled to be recognized.

I had a hairstylist refuse to work on me because I came in with a too specific idea of how I wanted my hair cut. He said that if he did just go ahead and cut it, he would not feel fulfilled as an artist.
