To give you Americans some context, our election was a few days after yours, and as McGlashan says in the article, we threw out the best govt we've had in decades and installed a money trader with a cabinet full of the same people who drove the country into the ground in the 1990s.

It's our equivalent of hearing Springsteen at a Reagan rally or something, except with the support for music industry the outgoing government has given, I doubt there's a single musician in the country who would have voted for the new (old) crew.

New Zealand entered a recession in the first half of 2008, and some analysts believe it will not pull out until 2009, as weak consumer spending falling house prices and the credit crisis bite.
