Subby FAILS.

Robert Plant has lost his range. Page, the music, and the lyrics are the reasons to go to see Zeppelin. Any half assed singer with his vocal range still intact could replace that self pretentious windbag.

Maybe name the band 'Alison Krauss'?

A last chance to see Page and Jones playing Zep tunes together again live?

I'm there.

I think that's probably a pretty fair compromise, really. They can't tour as Led Zepplin because they aren't Led Zeppelin. So why not tour as a Led Zeppelin cover band, which they are?

I used to work with a guy who was in a band named "Free Beer."

Everybody says they won't go see a Zep tour without Plant, but when the $150 tickets are announced for their town, the following rationales will kick in...

a) When am I going to see Jimmy Page again?

b) (fill in the blank) is a pretty good singer in his own right

c) I could never afford this if Plant were with them

It may not sell out in 30 seconds, but it will sell out arenas across the country.

elminestrone 2008-11-15 10:49:17 AM
How about calling themselves the Kashmir Hitmakers

productiveslacker 2008-11-15 11:02:22 AM
A spokesman for the trio says, "Whatever this is, it is not Led Zeppelin. Not without the involvement of Robert Plant."

Some may say the same without having John Bonham.

/Zeppelin fanatic. Seen Plant solo 2x, Page and Plant 2x, and even Jason Bonham in is old band Bonham. Or course I'd like to see them all again

I would and have paid money to see John Paul Jones live... not only is the guy an extremely talented musician and producer (check out his work on Pioughd by the Butthole Surfers), he's also willing to push his musical boundaries and doesn't seem to spend too much time resting on his laurels.

Personally, I would pay a penny to see Robert "The Incredible Melting Man" Plant or Jimmy Plaige do their Led Zeppelin lounge acts.

#1 It's obviously not Led Zeppelin without John Bonham. Doesn't matter who else is up there playing. Have The Who taught us nothing?

#2 I can't believe this is all about money when they could pull some old live tapes/video out of the vault and rake in millions. Makes me think that Page/Jones really want to play together out on the road. I'd definitely go see that.

keylock71 2008-11-15 11:34:28 AM
Wouldn't pay a penny... just to clarify.

craigdamage 2008-11-15 12:01:38 PM
Plant just enjoys snubbing Jones too much.

This. Plant has lost his magic. Jones, while technically good, isn't the heart of the band. And Page? Page was a horrible live guitarist at his pinacle, and certainly hasn't learned much more since then.

Why not follow the non-Yes reunion of Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe and make it Page Jones Bonham X?

Yeah, ABWH is a lame name, but they weren't Yes, and neither is the current Yes-ish band touring now "In The Present." Sure covered a lot of Yes tunes, and it was awesome though. Probably will skip the current non-Anderson Yesism...

Would I go see the as yet unnamed band do Zep tunes and maybe some new stuff? Hell yeah I would. Maybe to multiple shows, depending on finances when tix go on sale...

/Achilles Last Stand
//Free Beer is a great name though

I will believe nothing about such a tour until they hold a press conference and announce it. Too much monkey business with on-again/off-again leaked news reports.

Yeah I could bring myself to see The Two.

The Plant/Page shows were arguably better than the later-70's Zep tours, especially better set lists. I always thought they were fools for not inviting Jonesy and calling those 90's shows Led Zep. There must be some serious personality clashed going on there.

/Jones held the band together when Page was whacked out on drugs

Earguy: Yeah I could not bring myself to see The Two.

Fixed that for me

Great_Milenko:

It is going to Miles Kennedy from Alterbridge

There is some videos of Alterbridge doing Kashir on youtube and they sound incredible.

And he is not trying to do plant. Just singing like he normally does.

/Im going. The wife says we can even fly to London to see it there.
//flew to London in 1998 to see Daft Punk on New Years eve at Ministry of Sound.

They should call themselves the New Yardbirds.

There is (was?) a band in Ontario with that name. I suspect there are quite a few.

The Nobs

Zed Leppelin would be a fine name, if it's not taken already.

Also knew a band called "Free Beer" in my area. But gigs were hard to come by, considering how much the venue owners hated that name...

verbaltoxin [TotalFark] 2008-11-16 01:08:17 AM
The Page and Plant stuff from the 90s was pretty cool. I don't see why they can't call it Page, Jones and Bonham.

Florida pisses on Cuba: The Nobs

Also good.

fark2105: Here we go again!

That was going to be my suggestion also.

I submitted this with a better headline.

I just watched that, along with some other videos, and I was quite impressed. That band used to be Creed? What the hell? Did they get dramatically better, or is Scott Stapp just surrounded by an atmosphere of suck that brings down everybody in a 100 foot radius?

From_The_Year_2000 2008-11-16 10:52:35 AM
They could start a band called Bare Naked Ladies

FredGarvin 2008-11-16 02:53:27 PM
The Who were still great without Moon. Better with Zak than Kenny Jones, but without Entwistle, disappointing.

And AWBH was the best Yes show I've seen out of about a dozen lineups.

So count me in for Zed Leppelin, providing tix aren't $300.

Subsonicmonkey 2008-11-16 05:10:29 PM
They could call themselves "The Why Bothers."

MikoSquiz 2008-11-16 07:55:32 PM
One of the bands called Free Beer (a Canadian one, I believe) toured with the Bare Naked Ladies.

Not Zep should call themselves Kashmir, except that there's already a (really good) Danish band called that. Black Dog? Physical Graffiti? Bron-Yr-Aur? The Song Remains the Same? Houses of the Holy?

(Incidentally, the drummer from Silverchair and Dave Grohl both have tattoos of the Bonham sigil from IV)

Crewmannumber6 2008-11-17 09:30:46 AM
Better than your idea: Cosmic Lineup.

/or A Flock Of Budgies

FredGarvin: And AWBH was the best Yes show I've seen out of about a dozen lineups.

That one was really good. I love Bruford's drumming, so inventive. I think I liked the Masterworks tour version of Yes better though, because the choices on the setlist were epics. Not so much about the individual performers, but the music -- Gates of Delirium, Close To The Edge, and Ritual in the same concert. Awesome. I was in heaven.

/we have heaven!
