If you like that, you should check out the group Black Violin.

I loved that video. It is just as awesome now as it was years ago when I first saw it.

Pretty sure i've seen this before, but that doesn't make it any less sick. That shiat is tight.

Nice and all, but sort of reminds me of a personal fault as a guitarist...sometimes playing lead for 2...3...4 minutes straight is a little much. I think the same can be said for violin, and not to slight it, but without a pedal board or maybe a second pickup tone to mix in, it got a little stagnant to me.

/somebody get that man a wah pedal

Came in here to say that. Saw them live this past January at the FMEA convention. They were by far the most popular session. Just ridiculous. I bought 5 copies of their demo CD and loaned them out to members of my orchestra. Glad to see their name's getting around.

Came in here to mention Black Violin as well.

its a pity the pick-up destroys much of the natural vibrancy of the violin, you really just can't sustain notes when plugged in. Other then that, pretty damn awesome.

Meh. Jean-Luc Ponty was doing cooler shiat on the violin 30 years ago. And don't forget about Anreas Vollenweider on the harp (and an electro-acoustic auto pedal harp at that). Check them out.

Automator 2008-11-15 03:03:20 PM
I'm not too impressed. The DJ just copped a preexisting A Tribe Called Quest beat from "Check the Rhime."

WIN. Jean-Luc Ponty, Black Violin. Enough awesomeness to over power the suck of a thousand Nickleback threads.

that's why mics are where it's at.

Local DJ here in Seattle DJ Flave, and this is all I could find of him playing his sax along with his records. I've seen him do it live a few times and its great!

as far as I could tell, he was mike'd?

shiatty mike? bad mix?

could it just be a beat violin? a bad violin can make the best player in the world sound like a 6 year old practicing their scales

I already knew this from Revenge of The Nerds, Subby.

Nice. Really nice.

Anyone who thinks DJs have no talent is full of it.

I can't imagine how hard it is to match up beats on records like that live.

It may be old, but who cares. I'm uncool enough to have just seen this for the first time, courtesy of Fark.

Thanks, subby.

Oh, yeah, huge this. Keep your DJ wannabes, real musicians FTW.

I think it's cute that a talented musician enjoys making music with people that play records.

Flobots, it's not a cover, they have a hottie playing viola.
\don't deny my hotties-playing string instruments knowledge.
