The song "Fire" alone makes him an immortal. So long, Mitch.

NOt from this article, but what an AWESOME quote:

Sorum writes, "I had the pleasure of meeting him a few times. I asked him once what he was thinking when he played the groove to Manic Depression - a jazzy, almost Latin-type feel... a circular, moving piece of music. He told me Hendrix said, 'Mitch, just think Africa, man.'

Yeah, most of us noticed this before he died.

Mitch was the man.

I hope he's chillin' with Jimi.

Axis: Bold as Love is quite possibly the greatest rock album of all time.

I saw a dude, he was wearing a leather jacket, and at the same time he was eating a hamburger and drinking a glass of milk. I said to him "Dude, you're a cow. The metamorphasis is complete. Don't fall asleep or I'll tip you over."

My manager saw me drinking backstage and he said "Mitch, don't use liquor as a crutch." I can't use liquor as a crutch, because a crutch helps me walk. Liquor severely farks up the way I walk. It ain't like a crutch, it's like a step I didn't see.

Billy McGoodGuy: I am glad he is dead. The world has enough suck in it with Ringo Starr still alive...it doesn't need any more.

I'm not quite sure what you mean there, but Ringo is one of the best drummers ever, and don't make me spend 3 hrs explaining why.

I was lucky enough to see Mitch on the 2007 leg of the Experience Hendrix tour. It was amazing, and I feel sorry for those who never got to see him.

/waits for someone who actually saw Hendrix to show me up

a monkey with a pot and spoon could play Love Me Do....

Billy McGoodGuy: Wiki Ringo and go to the section "Drumming Ability and Appreciation." Yes, it's an anecdotal source, but you get the point. And bravo to Phil Collins (another brilliant musician not given his fair props because he's...well, sort of a tool) for pointing out the fills on A Day In The Life. Also, for future reference, whenever any Farker with the word "Zappa" in their username drops musical wisdom on you, HEED IT, because I guarantee you that person pays very, very close attention to the things they hear.

I should have added that Zappa fans are also generally able to lucidly explain both how and why certain things make a musician technically proficient.

I've been at Fark for over five years and that's the stupidest post I have ever seen. You, sir, are the biggest waste of flesh I've ever encountered. And there are a helluva lot of idiots here.

You win!

Too bad the kids today think Musicianship is the name of some MC who pissed off Kanye, and is banging one of the Kardashians.

I raise a glass to Mitch Mitchell; he was one of the greats though obscured sometimes in the shadow of Hendrix. A cut of his I always recommend outside of the Hendrix catalog is "Yer Blues" with the Dirty Mac (John Lennon & Clapton on guitar, Keith Richards on bass) on The Rolling Stones Rock N Roll Circus - an all time fave. It's worth checking out for being chock full of win on the other performances too: Tull, The Who, Taj Mahal, and Stones all bring it on home as well.

/I will ignore Billy McDouchebag, as it's been rightly pointed out he's not worth talking to directly.

drakmar 2008-11-15 12:41:08 AM
Thats why Billy McGoodGuy is here posting stupid remarks about something he knows nothing about, and Mitch, Jimi and Zappa and all the greats that are gone are famous and were good enough to become famous. Troll Billy McGoodGuy will always just be that, a troll.

I agree wwith don't understand:

Billy McGoodGuy:
You win! IDIOT OF THE MILLENIUM AWARD!
