I never understood where the stupid names for Star Wars characters came from since Luke, Han, Ben and Leia all seem normal.

Also, large amounts of Alien come directly from Dark Star and parts of Star Wars are obviously influenced by it. Take a look at the external shots of the Dark Star with the communications dome and compare it with the external shots of X-wings with the R2 units, especially the scenes where the dome is sending digital communications to the rest of the ship.

They all had normal first names, which made it okay. The last names, less so. Solo is a little odd, Skywalker is serious cheese, etc. The ill-fated Biggs' last name was Darklighter. Apparently this was a theme.
