The Monkees ruled. It's a shame about John Lennon and George Harrison though.

They wanted to make a sequel to this movie. The trailer for it would start:

"From the people who gave you 'Head'..."

/true story

When I read the article all I could think about was, I wonder if Mike inheriting millions of dollars from his mom (the inventor of liquid paper) has anything to do with Mike not figuring in Peter's cosmos anymore. Jealous perhaps? Not to mention that Mike was the only really consumate musician to begin with. Peter came into it but Mike was already there when they started. The Monkees had some pretty darn good songs though. I liked the movie, but then I like nonsense.

Back when being anti-establishment and counter-culture was edgy, this movie was exciting. Today, not so much.

/and I'm a huge Zappa fan.

I actually have this film on VHS - the first thing I ever bought off Ebay. It's a trip, to say the least, and always serves to bring on some laughs when I show it at parties.

The Monkees had the sense to hire some of the best songwriters and musicians to cover their own meager talent - a technique borrowed by Sting and quite a few other stars. But they still released some great pop tunes.

I loved their TV show back when I was a kid in the '60's. They had some good music for a contrived band.

This movie kicks 100 discrete varieties of ass. I've watched it twice recently and plan on buying the DVD. It's a satire of their experience as young, talented guys being pressed through the TV biz sausage grinder. Plus it has Teri Garr when she was H-O-T.

They have the Monkees. They were a huge influence on the Beatles.

/Too lazy to find the picture.

"what do you say to someone when you first meet them? what you should say is; 'you're dead. GOD TOLD ME!!!'"

I copied all my Monkees albums to MP3, then deleted anything sung by Davy Jones. The rest is (mostly) great pretty darn good.

/Good Clean Fun is my favorite.
//Nez's early solo stuff is also excellent.

The Monkees were pretty good, considering that only Nesmith and Peter Tork were the only two with any musical background.

/could still beat the ass off any of these no-talents on the music scene today.

My new favorite Micky song (with the original, uncensored lyrics)...

It's an unfairly put-upon movie. I've always enjoyed it.

/The dark, goth version of the Monkees' house still rules.

Micky Dolenz played guitar in a few garage bands before the Monkees, and became drummer by default as Nez and Peter didn't want to give up their guitars, and Davy's a midget who was too short behind the drums.

Jack also makes a cameo in the film right after Peter punches the drag queen.

They belong in the Hall of Fame.

That is all.

We approach
On foot, by way of a paved thoroughfare
Uneasy expressions evident on
All the faces we encounter

Pardon us, we're primates
And many opine we behave as such
But the hours spent vocalizing harmonies
Leave no time for insulting others

Our efforts are wholly genial
We invite you to one of our performances
Being the youngest offspring of our ancestors;
We wish to express an opinion

Your attention please, we're primates
Our location can be diffcult to discern
We advise you prepare
for our possible arrival in your municipality

Yup, severely under-rated. They played (but not necessarily wrote) some crackin' pop tunes.
Always dug the ones that Nesmith sang and/or wrote:
Girl I Knew Somewhere
What Am I Doin' Hanging 'Round?
Papa Jeans Blues
You Just May Be The One
You Told Me
Sunny Girlfriend

I'm sure I'm missing a couple, but all of the above are absolutely ace. I would put them against just about anyone in terms of comparing great pop.
It can't always be Dark Side of the Moon, can it?

Loved the Monkees, still do. I used to really love "Cuddly Toy"as a kid because it was so happy, but if you really listen to the lyrics, it's pretty creepy. Thanks, Harry Nilsson for that one.

Love the Monkees, especially those deep tracks. Think my fave, though, has got to be "Listen To The Band". And I have a VHS tape with Magical Mystery Tour and Head back to back-for a while, that and some substance that causes some kind of altering of perception was our favorite form of entertainment.

I saw them a few times on the reunion tour, and was depressed Nesmith didn't join them at first. They kind of came across as really old Backstreet Boys at that point.

Wow 40 years old?

I remember seeing this at the home of a friend, who owned the local headshop I hung out endlessly in as a teenager. I was welcomed to hang out at first cos I was 16 and didn't wear enough clothes to pad a crutch. (brought in guys in packs) I got to know and become good friens with the two clerks.

We developed a friend relationship over time and he used to have a twice monthly "Movie Night", Movies, booze, weed all the fun stuff! Sometimes the movies were pornos, other times old movies like Head and other obscure, or art films.

Thanks Fark, for a 'trip' down memory lane!!

Damn I was a real bad fun naughty, (You pick the adjective, K?) girl back then. (just have to keep it on the downlow nowadays)

Still hate wearing clothes though!
