Armenians and Greeks in the same room? That must have been as calm and peaceful as a sackful of cats.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. The only way to turn it up a notch would've been to throw some Turks into the mix.

Unless you disagree on which hand was nailed to the cross first. Then its 'bash the heretics head in with a brick' time.

God protect me from your followers.

See that little ladder there, right under the window? That's on the outside of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, where this took place. It's been there since before any one can remember, at least since 1852, because the Greeks and Armenians can't agree on moving it. It's in a no-man's land.

Really, this ridiculous thing is a wonderful metaphor for Christianity itself. Here, at the supposed site of Christ's crucifixion, the holiest place in Christianity, a bunch of squabbling sects have divided it up like 8-year-olds drawing a line across the bedroom they're forced to share. Because of their inability to work together on anything, the building is so neglected that it's in danger of imminent collapse. Oh, and to top it all off, it would have been impossible for any one to have actually been crucified on the rock the main shrine is built over. It's basically a big column five feet tall.

This is the same church that's in danger of collapsing because none of the (seven or nine) sects which occupy various parts of it can agree who's supposed to fix the roof!

People were actually killed when someone tried to move a ladder that's been in place for 150 years!

Gotta watch those Armenians. They've been spoiling for a fight since at least 1915. Actually, everyone over there's been spoiling for a while, because of lack of refrigeration.

You could say "Can't you work it out like good Christians?" and then they'd all jump on you at once and flatten you like a bad sheepskin rug before turning on one another again. Something about deserts and mountains just makes people strange...

Apparently the same Muslim family has held the key as a compromise between the various Christian churches for 1300 years. That's a long time to hold a grudge. Even the current Arab-Israeli conflict has been going on for less than a century. Amateurs.

I have this hypothesis that if Islam/Chrisitanity is true, God lost the war in heaven. Lucifer is now running the show and all their prayers are feeding the hubris of the wrong guy. Meanwhile he's busy mismanaging the whole thing and having a hell of a good time doing it.

I can be like a thief in the night and just get rid of that problem, no blood involved. Much like the scaffolding to the left in that picture. I'll accept that responsibility.

You said it. If there are no Turks around, I guess the best they can come up with is the Greeks.

Blame the British. Jerusalem was under Ottoman rule for centuries until the Brits decided to expand their empire during WWI.

Because the actions of individuals make ideas wrong. Maybe it isn't "religion is bad". Maybe, just maybe, its "people are assholes, regardless".

Come on, this would have been a perfectly legitimate use of the "Ironic" tag!

"Fights are not uncommon in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre among the representatives of Christian denominations who are responsible for maintaining its different chambers."

Talk about missing the point...
