I am in my 40's and don't give a damn.

Reunite the Cars, or Led Zeppelin, or Genesis, and you have my attention.

I saw Midge Ure solo a couple years back. He was the headliner for a free open-air concert that a local radio station put on (a friend of ours manages the venue, which is handy). He sang Vienna, Dancing with Tears in my Eyes, and a couple others. It was very, very cool. He's still got it.

I saw Midge Ure back in '89 and it was fricken awesome. His solo album at the time, not so much. But he played a bunch of old Ultravox tunes, even opened with "Vienna" if I remember correctly.

Hope they come to Canada.

There's no John Foxx involved in this reunion, so what's the farking point?

They had one good record with Ure (Vienna), and then preceded to blow for a few more years before hitting the pole-shed circuit.

Gonna be hard to reunite the Cars with the most talented musician in that band currently feeding the worms.

Vienna is a great song. It's odd and a bit tough to peg into any one music category (bombastic?). Still, it's a damn fine tune when considering how much suck came out of the 80s. Will I see Ultravox live? Sure, wth.

saw midge ure about 5 years ago guesting with the
Chieftains in L.A.
he said something about having a musical past
that not a lot of people remembered, probably meant
ultravox, anyway, i was near the front and shouted
"Thin Lizzy!" and he called me a bastard.
With a smile on his face.
Great guitarist, great singer.

I saw Midge in 1991 on a songwriters tour. The format was five different singer/songwriters on stage for about three hours taking turns talking about and playing their music. The night before they had all watched Spinal Tap and it was the first time Midge had seen it so he quoted it all night. Great show.

"Bob Geldof's got *this* much talent. This much if he's lucky."

Subby, I'm in my early 30s and could quote more Ultravox trivia at you than is remotely healthy :-)

If you want to get all Astradyne about the Private Lives of New Europeans - and Passing Strangers - then you should make a Western Promise right now to sing a Hymn about Monuments, the Rage In Eden, Wild Winds and The Voice. I Remember Ultravox, and even if we were All Stood Still, I would Stand Alone in defending that some of us under 40 Came To Dance, and even if we're The Stranger Within, we'll still take the high road, or The Ascent, if you will.

Remember, there's an Accent On Youth.

/Can't believe I just did that.

DJ El Macho 2008-11-09 10:00:19 PM
you think they'll still come to dance?

Bexta 2008-11-09 11:07:21 PM

Good news except the fact they aren't coming here.

Hi guys! I'm-a be attending this here party!

I would even go as far as to say that the only two performance Midge Ure has ever managed not to make me want to kick him are "Vienna" (at least, the first couple of times I heard it) and "Ghosts of Princes in Towers")

/Hey, maybe a Rich Kids reunion wouldn't be so bad, really
//Except they'd just have that one song to play, over and over and over again
///Of course, it probably came from an album and all that but, seriously?

I head that CD with White China on it, plus Dancing with tears in your eyes. Kind of liked a few tracks. However, hearing the lead singer,s solo (with Mike Karn and Kate Bush I think) his words are too basic.

I don't think they were very well know back in those days...but good luck to them

Didn't Ure and Geldof co-write "Tears Are Not Enough"? Geldof went on the claim all the glory.

I was always more of a metalhead, so I don't really know anything about Ultravox. But if Ultravox isn't your cup o' tea, then go to the Nickelback reunion in 20 years and see what "the kids" are saying about that...
