"A SEVEN-months-pregnant truckie and her former bullrider groom had a country wedding to remember"

See? And people only think the US south has rednecks.

And what is a "portaloo"? Is that a town or some other location? because it means something entirely different over here.

Well, they packed up a rented portaloo to return to the company they got it from. Yeah, I believe it's a city in southwest Ohio.

zhinz 2008-11-09 06:59:51 PM
That's what they get for dealing with horses. Man, I hate horses.
On Tuesday, the couple packed up a rented portaloo to return to Dubbo - only have the trip turn into another nightmare.

Their car overheated in the Goonoo forest and when Mr Clark lifted the bonnet, the water system exploded.

Is this part written in English? The place names sound like something Dr. Seuss would write.

"He was being photographed atop a grey mare that happened to be nearby when it collapsed."

This is why I always ask a mare for identification before climbing on top of it. Sounds like this couple deserved everything they got.

Portaloo = Port-A-Potty.

They probably had so many guests they needed a spare toilet.

I hyper-extended my knee during my wedding reception (doing the limbo).

New shoes + bending back much farther than I should have = SPLAT

Hubby was "helping" me to our departure gate at the airport the next day (read: wheeling me in a wheelchair) and accidentally rammed my bad leg into the back of the elevator we were trying to get on.

Somehow I *still* managed to hobble my way through a several hour hike during our honeymoon that week.

/ should I be surprised that my knee still isn't right?

"We thought it would be good luck because my grandparents have been married for so long," Mrs Clark said.

These two have already had enough disasters to bond them for life, I don't know what they are worried about.

Sounds like they succeeded also.

I guess the old grey mare ain't what she used to be.

Yeah, I'm a little baffled by the "atop" vs. "nearby" thing myself. If you are on top of something when it collapses, why would it be said to be "nearby" when it collapses. Can someone please explain this to me?

I don't think it's the worst ever. That one in Afghanistan a few days back was pretty bad.

That's what I was thinking...get all the bad stuff out of the way right off the bat.
If they can weather a beginning like that, anything else that comes at them will be a piece o' cake...

Only thing I can think is: there was a random mare nearby, and the photographer said, "hey, why don't you get on the horse... it looks healthy".

I'm not impressed. The groom still came out ahead because he didn't marry my (now) ex. She seemed nice enough. I didn't realize insanity ran in her family.

Then it was a near-Darwin event. I'm a very experienced rider, and I would never get on a horse I knew nothing about.

I was asking if the meaning is the same there in oz as here. Not all the same words have the same connotations, you know.
