I have not been excited about what a newly elected president is going to do before. Ever.

I can't wait until Obama takes the oath of office and actually starts making things happen. The fact that he's already shaking things up is a really good sign.

"I would say that as a candidate, Sen. Obama said that he wanted all the Bush executive orders reviewed and decide which ones should be kept and which ones should be repealed and which ones should be amended, and that process is going on. It's been undertaken," Podesta said Sunday on "Fox News."

this is the thing that solidified my vote in obama without a shadow of a doubt. he said sometime last year that one of the first things he would do if elected would be to sit down and go through every executive order signed by bush. the fact that a viable candidate would say that turned my head, and now he is following through. i'm interested to see what they do.

So he's going to slash and burn the Federal budget by reducing the size of the bureaucracy?! How farking cool is that?!

Not that the article says anything remotely close to that. Or that he campaigned on anything remotely close to that. But one can...hope...for such a...change.

Umm...considering the President doesn't have a line item veto, I always assumed that is partially what he meant when he said he would go line by line through the budget and make cuts. (Which, btw for all the haters pre-election out there, was not something he was really able to do before he got elected).

I mean, for anybody who follows Congress, they have been investigating many, many Bush agencies for incompetence over the past 2 years. With a compliant administration they may actually be able to solve many of the problems.

First thing that should go: Department of Homeland Security. (And that way there will be no question as to whether or not Loserman has to resign his committee chair).

So I can't bank on his first budget being smaller than this years. Cool!

A man walks into a small Department of Agriculture office, and sees one agent. The agent is sitting at his desk, weeping uncontrollably.

"Are you okay?" asks the man, "What's wrong?"

The agent replied, "My farmer died."

Health care is another priority, with former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle of South Dakota a possibility. But Democratic sources say Howard Dean, a doctor who had a strong run as the Democratic National Committee chairman, is hungry for the job.

Well 2 things- 1. You have two competing budget agencies: Congressional and Presidential. If the presidential releases funds for agencies, I suspect that the Congressional budget office is likely to send those elsewhere rather than simply cutting funds overall. But 2. What you should be hoping for is that Obama's office proposes a budget and then he actually gets his staff to beat their budgets, thus saving us money.

TFA is about repealing executive orders, not reducing government waste by eliminating unnecessary bureaucratic positions.

There could be a Department of Homeland Security without a Senate Homeland Security Committee, and vice versa.

Did I miss something? It appears he's just going to overturn the partisan policies put in place under Bush and implement his own new partisan policies.

What's the story? Is he going to start slashing the power of the executive branch? Because THAT is something I'd like to see. TFA mentions nothing of that.

Their elections occurred during periods of stability. No one was really paying attention to their transitions. Moreover, at this time in 2000, no one could even figure out who the actual President-Elect was.

Can we hold the spiffy tag until he forces one......just one....government agency to spend less than they did last year?

Don't forget the only growth area for unions these days is government employees. And there isn't a damn thing this guy thinks the government should not be involved in and spending more on.

This.

The fact that a politician is saying the same thing after he's elected that he did before he was elected isn't unusual.

If he actually does something once he's in office then I'll take notice.

I'll admit that is a bit douchey... But I'll put up with the podium sign if it means Obama actually pushing Bush towards the door every day until he is actually sworn in.

Not really. There is a name for his position, and rather than wait until he's actually moving in, he's already assembling his team and getting to work. The sign is meant to clarify the fact that he doesn't actually call himself president, yet, so that all of McCain/Palin's minions don't start screaming hysterically.

Let's face it: If he doesn't get to work now, he won't be able to finish the task in front of him in 8 years.

As a contractor for a very large agency, I can say that I'm very used to this sort of scrutiny as of lately, and feel no more or less threatened than I did a week ago. A lot of waste going on, just hope that I'm not part of the waste. No matter what we have to curtail spending, I just hope he's not marginalizing one end in order to extend another (*cough* entitlements *cough*).

It's not like he put the sign up there himself. There actually IS an "Office of the President Elect", where he can conduct business during the transition. Podium is included.

Is your contract work more important than Medicare?

That's an interesting sentiment: "I'm o.k. with the trimming of wasteful discretionary spending as long as we don't find a way to improve the long term viability of Social Security." Alrighty then!

Yes, and MUCH less expensive. Medicare is the $50 trillion dollar anchor on this sinking ship and needs to be completely eliminated.

Although that would be funny: A sheet of notebook paper taped to the front, with "Office of the President Elect" done in multicolored felt-pen design.

...but then someone would complain that it was too ostentatious.
