Yes. simply yes.

You wont get an argument from me on this.

mfaby 2008-11-09 07:58:31 PM
Me, neither but what was the guy's point?

makjr33 [TotalFark] 2008-11-09 08:04:54 PM
No, I'm sorry --
that would be George Harrison's All Things Must Pass... All Things Must Pass.
And now, moving on to Double Jeopardy....

makjr33 [TotalFark] 2008-11-09 08:06:35 PM
But in serious response --
Sandanista was a real good 3-LP set.
It would have been an extraordinary 2-LP set.
It could have been one of the finest rock and roll single albums of all time.

I agree with everything except your first line.

Sometimes less is more.

Hey subby thanks for the site. I will now waste way too much time on it.

Whew--I was afraid it was going to be "Yessongs"

Love "Sandinista"

The only band that matters

Some might argue that this is not a great album.

Might?

Some editing was definitely in order. It would have been on anyone's top 10 greatest records ever list, if someone would have used some sense.

emonk 2008-11-09 09:55:39 PM
I too was expecting All Things Must Pass...

Dear Jerk 2008-11-09 10:19:32 PM
They didn't foresee mp3 players. For me, it is a great album and a half.

STRYPERSWINE 2008-11-09 10:19:49 PM
Wait a second, that's not Extreme's "III Sides To Every Story"!

I agree. It is very hard, given its length, to sit and listen all the way through. And, it has its excesses. Still, I think it is a pretty good album -- better than about 98% of the albums released in 1980....

CoachBlack 2008-11-09 10:25:20 PM
My vote goes to Leon Russell "Live"

I can't say I can think of many sets greater than 2 discs that aren't compilations of some sort.

Dwight_Yeast 2008-11-10 12:17:24 AM
Wrong, subby, there are no great tripe albums in Rock & Roll, unless you want to count The Concert for Bangla Desh or the Band's Last Waltz.

All Things Must Pass is a great double album with an extra disc of pointless wankery stuck in for no reason.

Prince's Emancipation?

MF Grimm's American Hunger?

/Any Black people on Fark?
//Any?

kruppz 2008-11-10 03:02:10 AM
There was alot of crap/wierdness on Sandinista that didn't need to be released. It was weak compared to London's Calling.
/Loves the clash.. but disagrees with subby

Bhasayate [TotalFark] 2008-11-10 03:09:38 AM
Err, not.

As one already said, "All Things Must Pass", much better.

And so was "Emancipation"

srhp29 2008-11-10 05:05:22 AM
I believe Freedom Rock is three casettes...

MizzouGuy 2008-11-10 10:10:04 AM
I remember bringing this home when it came out. I was 13 or 14 and liked the Clash but had no idea what half their songs were about. I was listening to it ad my Dad sees the album and says "Sandinista? What the hell are you listening to?" Then I got the talk about Nicaragua and the US forces there and socialism and Reagan. I said I get it but their just a rock band from England. I promised I wasn't a leftist and I would vote for Reagan in '84, when I turned 18, and I did and I am glad dad set me straight, but this is still a kick ass album.

All Things Must pass is good, but I did not upgrade to CD like I did the Clash, plus the 3rd album was judt a jam session if I remember, and not very entertaining.

Also would have to argue Prince - Emancipation

eviljimbo 2008-11-10 11:38:00 AM
yes.

I came here to say All Things Must Pass. Not to mention The Concert for Bangladesh.

THANK YOU! That is a very cool read. That album is such a crazy listen. Big fan.

Grandemadaca 2008-11-10 03:14:55 PM
I agree with the others. Should have been boiled down to 1 or two discs.

Blackbrain 2008-11-10 05:27:38 PM
I agree with the subby. Sandinista is the crowning achievement of The Clash. For those who don't think it's too long, you should check out The Sandinista Project (new window), a track for track "Tribute" remake. It is really interesting to mix the project tracks next to the originals to get a fresh listen to the music. I don't know why The Clash made Sandinista and I don't know why anyone was crazy enough to re-make it, but it remains my all time favorite desert island disc(s).

Nothing Can Change The Shape Of Things To Clash

and if you can tell me where that came from, I'll be impressed.

aw c'mon: Nope.

In Space No One Can Hear You Clash

and

Nothing Can Change The Shape Of Things To Clash

were etched, one to two words per side, in the original pressings of Sandinista and London calling on the blank vinyl space between the end of the last song and the label in the center.
