237 is the room from The Shining (new window) that was haunted.

And those girls better learn how to clean up after their pet.

Still, that's a pretty cool list of perks.

Oh goodness, those two little girls are adorable. If Obama takes two terms they will be grown when he leaves office, how wierd is that?

JerseyTim [TotalFark] 2008-11-09 10:57:13 AM
No, I don't wonder, because I've seen a little movie starring Sinbad called First Kid.

T-Luv 2008-11-09 11:16:07 AM
No, I have never wondered that.

next question.

Lonestar: Ok, ill bite, whats in room 237?

It's the room where Dick Cheney killed a man, just to watch him die.

Some say it's haunted....

/For example, we all say that.

it sounds pretty sweet to me. they're gonna be little princesses.

hopefully by the end of Obama's 2nd term Malia isn't falling down drunk at bars like SOME presidential daughters I know.

Um, no. There is no royalty in this country. It's scary the way America is slowly beginning to worship the President and his administration. Let's remember: they work for us.

I have always wondered what it would be like to have an adult in the White House. Let's hope Barry shows us.

Yeah man, mongoose 12 and viper something-or-other. Like the epic battle between a snake and a mongoose. It's a shame that the subtlety of that movie's writing was lost on its target audience.

BEGINNING?? Surely you jest!

The lack of a king has been obvious in the "you must defer to the President" pseudo-royalty BS for decades now at least.

Kinda like that stupid frankie munez Muneiz Fark it, the kid from malcom in the middle's movie called big liar where the character names are derived from the "Boy who cried wolf" ?

Well, we've been doing so for some time - but I agree, the idea of a "first lady" and "first family" is clearly a nod towards royalty. Let's just ignore Obama's family (as we should have ignored Bush and Clinton's families) and focus on Obama, or better yet, Obama's policies.

/That said, I can haz indoor bowling alley?

On the one hand, yes, there are many perks. On the other hand, I can see being a kid in the White House being a drag.

I can just imagine those girls being told not to touch anything because everything is an antique. You can't go to certain parts of the White House because they are closed off or tourists are constantly coming in and out and that's dangerous. Having the Secret Service always by your side, never a moment alone. Constantly being told to be on your best behavior because you represent your parents. Plus, you don't want the foreign ambassadors thinking that American kids are brats. You need to get security clearance every time you want to bring a friend over. And then there are the rumors of your house being haunted. It's 3 in the morning and you are going down the hall for a glass of water and there's the ghost of Lincoln roaming the halls.

Ugh. No thank you.

"Ever wondered what it would be like to be a kid living in the White House?"

I understand that being a kid in the White House makes people say "Why is __(girl's name)__ so ugly? Because she was sired by Janet Reno" jokes. Try inserting a random girl's name into the blank like, for example, "Chelsea Clinton". You might notice, ten years later, having a serious case of amnesia about the whole ordeal of teasing a teenage girl on her appearance.

Beginning?
The transformation of the Presidency from constitutional officer to national demi-god has been going on for at least a century. Really, it's only a matter of time before we can't turn our back while in the Presidential Presence.

My Dad bought that for me in the 70's when I was a kid as his Dad did for him in the 30's. It's a fun book and an easy read.

It'd probably be pretty neat at first; then probably more than a little lonely. They'd be constantly surrounded by Secret Service and other adults; they probably won't have much social contact with people their age as a result.

For the sake of Obama's children; I sincerely hope I'm wrong.

I read a book awhile back, can't remember the title, written by a former WH staf member who had served as far back as Eisenhower. Really interesting.

About kids in the WH, I remember a few things. David Eisenhower was apparently dumb as a stump, Julie Nixon was a very sweet girl, Amy Carter was an absolutely horrid spoiled brat who was universally despised among staffers, and Chelsea Clinton was genuinely nice, a good person, unaffected by the pomp, and universally loved by the staffers.

I found it interesting.
