There was a story on NPR about someone renting out their Georgetown townhouse for 10k for the week...

I wonder if I could get that much for my studio apartment.

Somehow after hearing the story on NPR I got this sudden flash in my head of Atlanta during Freaknik.

My girl and I have a little tradition to head to D.C. right around the end of January. All we do is head to a Caps game, visit a few museums, etc, etc. I have a feeling we're going to be putting our tradition off a few weeks next year.

Great. More shiathead tourists. Recently with the economy in the shiatter it's been less obese Bumfark, Ohio losers and more greasy Eurodouches with handbags. Now we're back to the bumfark crowd...

I had fleeting thoughts about trying to go since we have been planning a trip to DC with the kids anyway. Then I remember you have to have tickets, and hotels will be packed...and the entire city will be packed. Good luck even getting something to eat without an hour wait. I will watch on TV. But I still have to pick out a bottle of champagne. What goes best with Neo-con tears?

I have already called my friends to reserve my floor space in their Logan Circle townhouse. (=

This is where I have the advantage of having a girlfriend in DC, don't have to freeload at all! Problem is when all the tourist try to get on the metro and clog everything up.

Time to bring back the death penalty for people that don't walk left, stand right on the metro.

I'd also like to inform the tourists that the absolute best place to watch the inauguration day events is J street.

NakedApe 2008-11-09 10:58:52 AM
I'm already as close to DC as I plan on getting.

These. Especially farking wide-ass 400 pound women with office jobs and a bad KFC habit (yes, Shaniqua, I'm looking at you) who stand right in the middle with an a hip touching each side blabbering about nothing to the behemoth ahead of them.

I work at a hotel in Annapolis, 30mins from D.C. -- We are currently selling rooms for $269.00 a night, Hotels *IN* DC are 500.00 +. Our Sister Hotel, near DuPont Circle, $700.00 a night and Sold Out.

I want to be off this weekend, so bad.

Sigh

On a light note, I plan on having plenty of Orange Soda and Sprite to sell.

I can't speak for champagne, but I plan on adding a few anguished, frightful tears to a Glenmorangie, port wood finish. It really 'opens up' the scotch. While savoring it, I plan on cockpunching the donor of said tears. 'Cos payback for all of that "sore loser" crap in 2000 is a mutha...

/has waited eight years to use the phrase "get over it" with the same snide derision as we endured from neocons. It isn't mature, but it feels soooooooo good.

Since the tourists are the ones paying for lodging and you're not, aren't you the freeloader?

It actually is a momentous occasion and deserves the attention it is garnering. Even if you did not vote for Obama, you have to agree that this is a giant leap for the United States. Even if the Obama administration is a total failure in the end, the events of today are inspiring.

They should just bus all the bums somewhere and sell tickets for the inauguration and parade at $500 a pop.

That reminds me.. someone called my hotel on Thursday night about booking some 20-25 rooms on January 18-20th. Looks like we're wide open, no reservations, so it shouldn't be a problem. And how far are we from DC? Uh, say about 900 miles or so.. (suburban St. Louis) So I try looking up other Hampton Inns in the DC area in the computer, mainly checking Maryland: every single one I checked was completely sold out.

i live three blocks from a 7 minute metro ride to dc, so i bet my house will be packed that day.

Bacicot 2008-11-09 12:39:24 PM
FTA: "Of course, some residents -- perhaps some who were on the losing side of Tuesday's election -- might want to get out of Washington during the inauguration just as much as others want in. Jessica Owens, 32, a private investor who lives in San Francisco, is banking on that.

She's looking for a straight-up trade: Any Republican who wants to leave town can use her two-bedroom apartment in exchange for a stay at a home in the capital.

"It's really nice in San Francisco in January. It won't be cold like it will in D.C.," she said. "Half of D.C. is the current administration and . . . there's no celebration for them. There's got to be someone who would love to have a long weekend on the West Coast." "

This is a bit of a stretch. I haven't heard of any Republicans crying for a recount or threatening to move to Canada. Most I know are behind the new president, hopeful for the future, and excited to be able to see the first black president elected to the oval office. Most of them will probably try to get tickets to the inauguration as well.

Not that what you said wasn't accurate, but I thought I'd share the reason behind it. It's eight years on and we still have to listen to idiots on the left complaining how Bush stole the election, and yet you don't hear any complaints about Obama winning, do you?

BitwiseShift 2008-11-09 12:51:12 PM
It's a Republican trap. They'll be coining money by renting out their soon to be vacated townhouses and using the excuse that the inauguration crowd trashed it.

Some tips for the first timers...

If you're going to the inauguration, plan on getting there really early, or you will be standing on the security line for hours.

If you're going to a ball, bring lots of cash, cause the drinks ain't free.

If you want to see the sights, please do not do it from your car, driving 5 mph on major thoroughfares. Get out and walk around.

I've already gotten a bunch of calls from friends who want to crash in my Silver Spring apartment. I think so far we'll have 9 people coming in. I'm actually flying into DCA from ATL (after 4 weeks in Brazil) on the night of the 19th. Possible outcome:

Tom Arnold : Soul Plane :: me : Delta 826

Freeloaders is the best case scenario. You know what happens in any downtown when a team wins a championship. Well increase that by a couple of orders of magnitude. I think DC will get the most farked up it's been since the Brits burned down the White House

CaptainSmartass: It's eight years on and we still have to listen to idiots on the left complaining how Bush stole the election, and yet you don't hear any complaints about Obama winning, do you?

That's because Obama actually WON the election -- you know, getting more than 50% of the popular vote -- instead of having it handed to him by a Supreme Court packed with partisan hacks appointed by his daddy.
