Looks like the "curb job" has already been carried out.

That said, I feel kinda sorry for his neighbors. Of course, they'll never be broken into while the SS is on the block, but it's gotta be a pain just to live a semi-normal life with all the media and security.

Keepin' it classy eh Obama fans? Wow... that Onion peace is really on target! I've been through a LOT of elections but this is the first time I've seen such a total lack of class on the part of the ones who won. Sour grapes? HA! I am glad this crap is over and I'm so sick of hearing about the holy one, I'd like him to just hurry up, get in office and start producing the miracles he's promised. It's good for the whole country, you and me. Lets get on with the healing and enough with this stupid partisanship.

I have to say that you have already helped me with the healing process. It was Republicans like you that made me an obama fan and continue to do so every day. The healing can only go so far though... as long as you still live here.

Total lack of class ? Welcome to the Divided States of America. You helped build it and now you can get used to it.

I think it's really unhealthy that one would vote for a certain candidate simply because (moronic) others support his opponent. What's wrong with evaluating both candidates on their own merits and making an educated decision?

Because most people in America can't seem to do that. They rely on tradition and media to help them make decisions. And the media know this, and tailor their reporting to conform to the beliefs of their viewers.

Anti-Republican material is ok but critisizing Democrats is bad?

But, hey, no problem. I'll not post a single partisan comment for as long as no one else does. Ready, steady, go! OK, we've started.

why don't you tell that to yourself in your Boobies where you insulted the "obsessed and offensive libs".

subby was referring to the fact that the secret service reported a huge spike in death threats against obama in direct correlation to palin going out on the stump and saying things like the referenced "paling around with terrorists" bit.

subby was responding to a matter of fact and a single person who was responsible for it. you insulted 52% of the nation.

I really don't care, I just want freedom of speech, religion, my guns, not to have to present papers to travel, be able to face those who accuse me in court, be able to seek redress of grievances, be secure in my personal effects, have a right to a jury of my peers . . . and not have my property taken for the common good without just compensation.

I want to see a separation of powers. No more legislating from the executive.

2004: George Bush wins with 51 percent of the vote.
Headline: Country divided!

2008: Barack Obama wins with 52 percent of the vote.
Headline: Country united!

If anything, I'm surprised the neighbors haven't been inconvenienced even more than they have already. I'm sure the Secret Service realizes that if anything (even a stubbed toe) should happen to Mr. Obama, the fallout would be something to behold. They managed to keep a president safe that the country was divided about - I'm sure they will have an easier job keeping one safe that the country is united behind.

Yeah, that block is really locked down. I have some friends that live around there and they had trouble getting to their apartments on election day because, as students, their IDs didn't have their Chicago addresses on them. They also locked down the Lab School the other day for parent-teacher conferences, one of my co-workers had to drive around for an hour for a parking spot because they shut down a big chunk of 59th street. Craziness.

The Secret Service is less forgiving and more paranoid than the citizens of Chicago.

Friskya 2008-11-09 09:32:37 AM
Say what you will. Our next president knew exactly who he had to pander to, what he had to say to pander to them and exactly where he needed to pander the hardest. He knew those people would believe anything (ANYTHING) he told them. A more brilliant campaign was never run.

More interesting to see is, how many of the people he pandered to will come out for the next TRULY important election: the 2010 congressional midterms.

My observation has been that the majority of President-elect Obama's supporters don't realize, congress passes tax and spend legislation. The president only signs (or vetoes) whatever they pass. He can press for or against passage, but when push comes to shove, it's the congress that's responsible for every bit of spending and taxation that happens in this country.

Race has no bearing on that, but most analysts agree that it did make a huge bearing on the presidential election results. I would wager that most of his supporters in this presidential election sit at home, waiting for their gas tanks to be filled up and their monthly mortgage payment verification to arrive, rather than going out to vote.
