All my life I've never made fun of, or put down, anyone for whatever music they enjoy. I didn't care if it was country music, generic dance pop, or whatever.
That being said,
Van Morrison is about as boring as it comes in the world of music.

If you go to Youtube to see one of their videos, they all have huge VM watermarks over the videos. Talk about annoying.

/Oh, and strangeguitar is right.

Van Morrison is a pompous ass.

I could never get into Astral Weeks, and I think VM is one of the greats. I think it came along when hipsters were looking for something different to revere. I would rather listen to his Contractual Obligation album, which can be found at WFMU.org.

Well screw all of you.

Astral Weeks is one of my favorites. BORING? Maybe the man is, but this album sure as Hell isn't.

And yes, Van Morrison is a great big butthole. I ain't hangin' out with the bastard. If the music is good, that's all that matters.

You, sir or madame, are a total double-plus idiot.

Van is NOT boring. He's irritating.

And comparing the man's personality to a butthole is egregiously unfair.

/it's okay, though. Buttholes are quite forgiving.

Glad Im not alone, I had open ears but astral weeks left me dissapointed , it doesnt suck thought, far from it. And frankly, im typing this and I feel I should give it another chance, and I will...

because sometimes, the best albums are always the ones that took you a while to "get into"

Astral Weeks boring?
You are simply too used to the drivel that is played constantly across the airwaves.
This is a masterpiece and the more you listen to it the better it gets.

Regarding Van's personality: he's never going to win a popularity contest! But that's the point. He's not the least bit interested in the fame game and he detests the press and the music business.

Saying that doesn't make him any less of a prick though! Ex-band members have said that he's the most difficult person they've ever worked with.

Seriously, Astral Weeks is a farking masterpiece. What the hell is wrong with you guys?

I guess once you've heard Buckcherry's "Crazy biatch", everything else pales in comparison.

What all you haters forget is that the record is FORTY YEARS OLD!
And for being 40 yrs old it is awesome.

As far as Van goes,,, yeah well he's either lying now or certain musicians from the album were lying about 5-6 years ago.

Why?

Well, Van mentions the complicated arrangements he wrote for the album and in a group interview 5-6 years ago the musicians talked about showing up and having very little to work worth; essentially Van gave them chord changes/charts and told them to jam while he sang.

Still a fantasic record.

Lemmie sum up these comments:

Anyone who doesn't like what I like is stupid and 'tarded and I hate them and must only like stuff that sucks. Yeah.

For sure, context is important. It was one of the first successful fusions of rock and jazz. With celtic, blues, and r&b thrown in too.

And then there's the vocal performance. Second to none.

That's why 40 years later there's still nothing even remotely like Astral Weeks.

I love Van Morrison. I own all his records. Astral Weeks is not one of my favorites.

Tupelo Honey for the win.

That is such an interesting and apt comparison. I love Astral Weeks. Not just because it has been a social lubricant of sorts for me over the years, but it can change the mood of a whole room without people even paying attention to it. It has become my favorite album of his, though self indulgent is a great way to decribe it.

VM is a self centered douche but his work is pretty f-ing amazing. Enough so that I haven't let his personality keep me from listening to it, like Sting's lack of respect for his fans has, for instance.
