"euthanesia for octogenarians"

Alright, who told them about my secret plan to save Social Security?

Don't Christians start to get the feeling they are being used as pawns when letters like this bemoan "offshore drilling" and "labor unions?" Really, the GOP has offered mere tokenism to their devoted Christian Right and yet their leaders punish them with a 15 page missive for even thinking about voting democratic.

Yeah, something like this did a great job "igniting the base" the last time.

FTA: The America you helped vote into power has lost its moral standing in the world

Yeah, Bush's war, Abu Ghraib, etc. already took care of that.

Maybe once we get some sanity in the government, this wretched fark and his ilk will lose their tax-exempt status.

The ~45% of Protestants who voted for Obama probably held those pawn-like feelings and refused to vote for the candidate of Evangelical repression and fear. The ~54% of Protestants who voted for McCain...there were a good number of them who drank an extra cup of Fundie Kool Aid this election season.

I suspect many Catholics voted on a single Meta-Issue; this election cycle, the economy won out over abortion, evidenced by the 54% of Catholics (including Mr. Shrew and I - but we don't really count, we're pro-choice anyway) who voted for Obama. [Jews, those of other faiths and atheists voted overwhelmingly for Obama (+75%).]

I have a time machine that actually works!

Let's travel back in time, to January 13, 2007, when that intrepid goofball evangelical leader James Dobson declares he couldn't vote for senator McCain "under any circumstances". (p)

Let's be fair. Let's not forget what the wacko moonbat libtards predicted what would happen in a Bush presidency back in the year 2000.

uncannily accurate that was. And thats just sad.

I wish it were so easy. I was 22 years old when Bush took office and I was genuinely afraid of many silly, silly predictions. But I knew what to take with a grain of salt because I can think rationally and critically about what I read and hear.

But the fundamentalists have a strict faith in their leaders and they don't take letters like this as mere hijinks. It scares the daylights out of them, and, for that matter, I never read a Bush scenario THIS disturbing.

This letter calls for 100% no-confidence in Federal government, all based on the election of ONE candidate. ONE! It paints a picture of Apocalyptic proportions and I'll be the first "moonbat libtard" to say that I'm genuinely scared of how this may inspire some people to "act."

Doctor Dobson is 72. Not a small chance that he will be deservedly rotting in hell in 2012. Maybe that's where his visions got confused.

hachijuhachi 2008-11-08 03:50:51 PM
As a Christian, I was appalled by this letter. I know several others who felt the same way. It is offensive the way Dobson views himself as a voice for all evangelicals. He's not. His position among evangelicals is analogous to Jesse Jackson's position among black Americans.

He's giving all of us a bad name, and he certainly doesn't speak for me.

Chemguy 2008-11-08 03:59:52 PM
This is a gem from the "letter":

When did this all start? Christians share a lot of the blame. In 2008, many evangelicals
thought Senator Obama was an opportunity for a "change," and they voted for him. They did not
realize Obama's far-Left agenda would take away many of our freedoms, perhaps permanently
(it is unlikely the Supreme Court can be changed for perhaps 30 years). Christians did not realize
that by electing Barack Obama - rated the most liberal U.S. senator in 2007 they would
allow the law, in the hands of a liberal Congress and Supreme Court, to become a great
instrument of oppression.

Ric Romero says that Republicans love to fantasize about the hypothetical disasters brought on to us by Democrats in the future but don't seem to spend too much time thinking about the very real and present disasters we are currently enduring through Republican leadership. More at 11.

Vagpuncher: I hope that one of his prophecies becomes true, I hope he loses his tax exempt status.

Seriously. Isn't there an explicit rule that churches can't endorse a specific candidate? How is there even any question here?
