Newt Gingrich 2012? It's more likely than you think

Well it couldn't be any less likely than I think, since I thought he was out of politics. He'd be better than Palin.

You know, the republicans aren't even trying anymore. I think they wanted to throw this election.

Yes...yes...Considering the failure of the moderate John McCain, the correct decision is to move further towards the religious right.

It'll totally work.

DamnYankees [TotalFark] 2008-11-08 09:33:58 AM
I think its pretty likely, so does that means its a guarantee?

bulldg4life: the correct decision is to move further towards the religious right.

Actually what I'd like to see is the religious right splinter into their own party so the more moderate republicans would actually be palatable again. It's too much to wish for the true economic conservatives to take over but I can dream.

Dude. People I work with thought the election would have been a landslide if Palin would have lead the ticket. The left leaning McCain is the reason for the loss. Yes, they will put up an even more out of touch candidate next time and lose again. See Bill Clinton 1996 and my Boobies in this thread.

'cause if there's anything the '08 election taught us, it's that the country is hungry for 90s-style far-right republican extremism!

Like I keep track of the two parties. Both are too far to the right for me. I guess Colin Powell would make the list.

Colin Powell endorsed the Democrat.

My point in asking was that I really can't stand this myth of the "moderate Republican party of yore", as if they haven't always been this way. The GOP hasn't been 'responsible' since, what...Eisenhower?

Well I for one was annoyed by this election. Every other election I was able to say I voted for the rich white guy and then Obama comes in and he's all like, I'm a rich brown guy and it blew my mind. I voted third party and he probably was a rich white guy but now everyone knows I didn't vote for Obama. This sucks.

Newt is still the best Idea man in politics. He needs a front man who can energize people. Huck would be good at that. Huckabee/Watts 2012. Make Newt the COS when they get in. That could work considering Huck is the only one genuine enough to stand on stage with Obama. But hey what do I know.

Why yes, I would.

FlashHarry: big surprise there. though newt is still a bit of a leftie for you, right, DIA?

Not really. People tend to forget that he presided over the Congress that cut the ever loving shiat out of the Federal budget. There was once a time when reeling in government and fiscal responsibility was important. Those days are long gone and I would love to see a return of them.

That's actually a ticket that I'd worry about, although I don't know if someone who's a Southern Baptist Preacher will be able to gain traction among non-Baptist religious voters.

By 2012, the US gov't will probably have to conduct a lottery among eligible citizens and force the loser to accept the job.

By 2016, the position will be appointed by the National People's Congress in Beijing.

dmatt33 2008-11-08 10:18:10 AM
The Repugnants won't field anyone who is pro-choice, since the wingnuts still control the party. Olympia Snow would be a good choice otherwise. Newt, smug bastard, his Contract with America is past due and severely delinquent.

The FairTax people would help him plus he is a genuinely nice guy. Probably be a issue based campaign. You can beat Obama on issue's but not by dirty pool.

I actually think this would be a better system of government because the people who want the job are the ones who shouldn't be getting it.

In the USSR during the cold war, in an attempt to compete with the "West" in tourism, the Communist Party opened a Party run strip club in Moscow. When it turned into a miserable failure, the Party launched an investigation to determine why;

Q. Did you serve alcohol?
A. Yes, the very best. Not only the best Russian Vodka but also the best spirits imported from around the world.

Q. Did you advertise?
A. Yes, we spent millions of Rubles for Tv and magazine advertisements in the West.

Q.Did you hire "good" women?
A. Yes! They have all been loyal party members since 1919!

With this philosophy, Newt would be a good choice.

I think the biggest strength of Huck is that he seems to be a really good guy. You don't feel like he's faking it, he's relaxed, funny (see his appearances on the Colbert, etc.). In fact, I bet he's a really cool guy to hang out with. Unfortunately, I think both his religious ideas and his FairTax ideas are nuts.

/please don't let this turn into a FairTax thread

My "inner redneck" (he thought Bush was "a pretty OK guy" in 2000) says there is no way Moose Lady is going to win anything in 2012 or beyond that unless she gets a whole lot brighter or at least figures out how to sound it (possible, but won't happen unless she actually takes a job in DC for a decade or so ... like Stevens' job maybe)

The country got it right. Obama was light years better suited in temperment and in ability to lead than McCain. I liked McCain, before he let the idiot Rove contingent in his party run his campaign for him. Palin too, maybe she has something next time, but she just was hopelessly out of her league this time.

Does that automatically mean we're screwed? I don't see it. The country didn't either. I'd suggest the Paultards and Fark Independents at least give Obama the leader, rather than Fox's and Rush's and Hannity's and Freepers' Already Made Up Views on Obama, the SocialLibralTerrorcrat with Dangerous Associations who wants to Tax And Spend us to bankruptcy. All thats right winger noise from 10+ years ago...

Where Newtie (dumped his wife in the hospital while she had cancer) Gingrich would fit right in. He's kind of the Anti-Clinton, just as dubious personal ethics, 180 on competency in economics.

The Republicans used to be about Big Ideas, now they're basically grasping at Nth generation Reagan Soundbytes without really getting what it meant 30 years ago. That is a recipe for loss after bitter loss. My Friends.
