Relax, Smitty.

They stopped doing rave after the second CD. Even the second one was kind of questionable in my mind.

I will smack you up, subbie

Interesting. I didn't like their last two albums, but we'll see.

I still have Prodigy on an old 5.25 inch floppy disk. I think it came in a box with Gunship 2000.

Rave. It would have been a lot more fun if the drugs they chose to do didn't turn you into an asshole.

You are no longer allowed to make comparisons or analogies.

smitty knows nothing. They were hugely important in the death of acid and birth of a bunch of other subgenres. Experience is a classic album.

If it's stupid why research prodigy and take the time to submit the article?

I saw Prodigy at Coachella a few years back. They played "Firestarter" no less than three times.

FGTH's first CD remains a classic dsnce album. And it's also one of the best produced CDs ever thanks to Trevor Horn. I still use it to show off my system.

People who still write off electronic music as simple dancefloor rave fodder lack any sort of credibility when discussing music.

Before 91/92 though, it was nothing but acid stuff out, especially acid house... but yeah, "death" isn't the best word.

Pesky_Humans [TotalFark] 2008-11-07 04:10:39 AM
Acid is alive and well. For those of you who are too busy jerking stiff over ancient rock records to try to listen to electronic music, acid refers to a type of music, independent of the drug acid. Specifically, music made using the sound of the TB-303. Oh, and you guys who will inevitably come back with "oh it's just computers and DJs and they aren't playing real music",you can suck it. Music, like all art forms, evolves. The DJ and electronic music culture is pushing the artform more than anyone right now. I get the feeling that the people who knock it wholesale have musical tastes that stopped during the early 90s and haven't ever heard a fraction of this music that they feel the need to shiat on. Go back to your hole. Oh and hey you should check out Skynard. They're pretty fresh.

/feeding the troll

Homero_G 2008-11-07 05:15:12 AM
What I mean is, you mostly heard acid house and what not at the parties until the breakbeat and hardcore stuff took over around 92. There was other stuff being played too, but for the most part it was kind of just acid house and acidy techno stuff, especially in like 89 and 90 or so. Things did shift pretty quickly out of that and into the breakbeat era. So, yeah, in a way an entire era did sort of "die" (though not totally, of course).

But anyway, that whole period was friggin awesome and anyone who was truly there knows prodigy was a staple. Those were the years. :) especially 92! :)

you are saying all this about me simply on a FRankie goes to Hollywood comparison.
tastes are subjective, don't let a douchebag ruin your day over his own opinion. i meant that, just like Frankie, prodigy are known for mainly 2 hit song and only 1 album worth talking about and are trapped in a very specific time in history

I like electronic music, but the old old, old stuff... Old Kraftwerk, Cabaret Voltaire, Suicide, the ambient works of Aphex Twin, Portishead ect... I actually own Atari Teenage Riot "Burn Berlin Burn" that someone mentioned a couple of posts above: perfect parallel with Prodigy... ATARI's songs are electrifying and energizing and so freaking intense... for about a minute... then all I hear is sampled riffs looped endlessly while they take turn screaming into the mike

I would love to hear what you think house music is, too.

Couldn't imagine anything more boring and less challenging to listen to. And I give ALL GENRE a fair shot

Sorry, I'm not trying to be a dick or a snob, but making a statement like that shows that you don't know what you don't know.

You have to do your research. It's not going to come to you, you have to go to it, and you aren't going to find the answers or explanations on stupid shiat like iTunes or whatever. There's way more to house music (and disco) than you think there is, and you're hearing it more often than you think you are.

I'm late to the thread, and it's about to drop off into the archives, but seriously Harry, give it a rest. Just because you like Aphex, Portishead, Suicide, etc. doesn't mean you know anything about electronic music or house music.

For once and for all, no one who is really into electronic music is impressed by name dropping any of the acts you just did. They're all on major labels, and it means you have the musical depth of your local Best Buy. Just stop it. You're not impressing anyone, and you just make yourself look very silly.

Yes, I know the common response is to call people like me "snobs" for liking the "off beat" stuff, but I've lived and breathed this stuff for 20 years, I know my shiat. I'd love to hear the "house" music you've heard that you claim to hate. I've turned even the staunchest haters into electronic music fans, provided they open their minds for 5 minutes.

Anyway, I don't expect a response, but to the submitters and general e-music haters, give it a rest. You generally don't know what you're talking about.

You guys crack me up with your "research" ... Ill be the first one to admit not being very knowledgable about that kind of music, and I m not even remotely embarrassed by it: it sounds sterile and soulless, end of research.

But by all means, if this is remotely offensive to you, you are welcome to do what I do... there is a submit clicky above, and you are welcome to try and fill the music page with all the electronic stuff you want

good luck with that

Sounds "soulless?" Now you really are talking out of your arse. Especially since you like Cabaret Voltaire, whose neo-industrial soundscapes were the very definition of music without soul. Of course, they were supposed to sound like that. The most amusing part of this is that Richard H. Kirk has done tons of house music records. In fact, he's drawn on house, techno, and dub influences for tons of his albums, but why do I get the feeling you've never heard a single one of them?

I tend towards current deep/dub house records, probably the biggest example of the "soullessness" you claim to hate. That would be a horrible discredit, as there's a huge amount of soul hidden in it, you just have to have an ear for it.

I'll make a wild suggestion and recommend Beat Pharmacy's "Wikked Times" album to you. That's one Brendon Moeller on Francois K.'s (yes, the DJ from GTA IV's Electroshock station) Deep Space Media label. Moeller's one of the hottest sensations in the underground right now, and "Wikked Times" is a staggering work of art.

As for submitting links, it's a fool's game because the only music links that are approved are ones that will start flame wars and loads of arguments. I love Fark, but the music tab is in dire need of help.

I think you misunderstand my "tone." I'm not angry or seeking validation here. You can insert a facepalm .jpg here if you like. That's how I feel when you post out of your arse. You're just making yourself look a bit foolish.

Oh, and I bought about 4-5 Cabaret Voltaire albums at Best Buy, and probably half a dozen of Kirk's solo efforts there. They used to have a pretty damn good selection for a big chain store, believe it or not. I could even find rare Coil, Chris & Cosey, Nurse With Wound, and Current 93 there!

Anyway, I'll let you return to starting arguments and flame wars on Fark, or as you put it, submitting links.

Hey, im actually enjoying this back&forth... I actually think there is some similar grounds, NUrse with wounds I like some, coil...,

but the way I hear it, is that the Cab, Nurse ect.. do more like electronic soundscapes than actual chorus-verse chorus-verse that ,say, prodigy does... which is why i like more the bands i mentionned

take for example, early Cabaret: too amateurish and noisy.. (red mecca is good though) then i like the early to mid 80s stuff, then the 90s stuff gets into that sound I, personaly dont like.

but what you said about Farks music page, its not in dire need of help when you guys are posting like crazy. the farkers are pretty predictable: If i write a headline praising the band then I get a thread full of people pissing on the band

if I write a headline pissing all over it, then its a whole thread of people coming to its defense

so really, its up to what I want to see in the thread...Countless times, I wrote headlines crapping all over my fave bands, just so I wouldnt have to read 50 posts of people pissing all over bands i like

so in this instance, I didnt see the point in having people crapping all over Proddigy: too easy.

/holy smoke! nurse with wound at BEST BUY? im taken aback
//they didnt have the Beat Pharmacy song you recommended, but im listening to SUNDAZED right now. That is nice

Prodigy was good until they dropped tha album with "firestarter" on it.. I don't even remember the name of it.. it was pretty full of fail. No one wants to hear you sing. I was so dissapointed when I saw the vieo of firestarter for the first time while in hospital. I couldn't push the 'pain relief' button enough to try and slip away from what I had just witnessed..
