Because having to worry about someone hitting you from the sides isn't enough. Let's worry about people hitting you from above and below too.

Big deal. I've seen Ferraris fly in at least three movies.

People can't even handle 2 dimensions. Do you seriously think they can handle 3?

FAA putting a well-deserved kibosh on this in 3...2...1...

A lot of the aggressive, asshole drivers that you hate on the freeway will be the first to buy these cars. Not like they'll ever make it to market, or anything.

So, let me see if I've got this straight:
Moller thread: Fake, scam, con artist, pipe dream, never happen
Ferrari does it: Bad drivers are bad, government save me.

Well aren't we a bunch of debbiedowner.jpg?

FTA: The 'Autovolantor' - based on a £200,000 Ferrari 599 GTB - is being developed by "Moller International".

Facepalm.

- The 'Autovolantor'
Catchy...

- based on a £200,000 Ferrari 599 GTB
A steep price, but its new technology...

- is being developed by "Moller International".
Goddamn it. Got my hopes up.

So, uh, the wheels are pentagrams? That cool I guess.

I love how the designer uses the present tense instead of the future... the same way presidential candidates use the indicative mood instead of the subjunctive....

I think the idea of flying cars is cool. But the human element is a killer, and there has yet to be a flying car project that works as advertised. Sure there are cars that can convert into light aircraft, but nothing that can hover or even stol.

Yeah, flying cars are a great idea. Give people an "up" and "down" turn signal to be too incompetent to use.

FreakinB: I don't know the if words exist to express how bad of an idea this is.

It'll never happen. You'll need a pilot's license to own one...

Erik_Emune 2008-11-02 10:29:26 PM
From Moller? Not bloody likely.

They've promised a flying car "in two years" for at least a decade. I can't tell whether they're deluded or scammers, but they're pretty obviously not going to be the ones to develop a flying car.

(Actually, I doubt that anyone will, but that's another story.)

Smellvin 2008-11-02 10:30:01 PM
How does Moller keep getting these free advertising "FLYIN KARZ R TEH IMMINENT SO GIV US LOTS OV UR INVESTMUNT MUNEES!" articles? I've been seeing this for a least a decade, and he's been working on the concept since the 70's(?).

A flying car based on a Ferrari? About time?

No. It's about time we develop a flying car based on a Kia.

/cuz I want one

Moeller international. Haven't they been touting this since the 1960's? (new window)

This guy's a master at vaporware........

The only flying Ferrari I've ever seen was this one:
blogs.cars.com

I don't have the right screen cap, but I think the replica DID get some airtime in that shot.....

serial_crusher: Yeah, flying cars are a great idea. Give people an "up" and "down" turn signal to be too incompetent to use.

You, sir, win +1 internets

HogWhitman 2008-11-02 10:32:44 PM
Uh, shouldn't Moller get his first flying car off the ground first? You know, the one he's been promising for 40 some years now?

Why fark-up a perfectly good Ferrari just to scam naive investors, when a Pinto or an AMC Pacer would fly just as far?

InternationalShoe 2008-11-02 10:33:11 PM
Figures it would be Moller..........maybe someday

WTF? How long can you keep financing a company without actually producing a sellable product? Moller's been around since, what, the 1980's?

LiteWerk 2008-11-02 10:36:41 PM
So, I'm wondering, how will you deal with a hit-and-run? You know, when the driver just flies away, far, far, away? What about when the driver is "impaired" or under the influence? What will MADD or RADD have to say about it?

No, just to fly it.

But who the fark would?

Doesn't look like it will glide too well when the "special hybrid fuel and electric" powerplant fails.

WTF?

DerDuschbagen 2008-11-02 10:42:36 PM
the only way the thing in the pic from tfa will fly is if it's driven off a cliff.
